Any T5 gurus
Ok. I have a WC T5 from an early 90's S10. The trans only came with the Ford style front mounting holes.
I've found a couple NWC cases from the 80's with the GM style bolt pattern. Can I swap internals between the two? Chris |

Re: Any T5 gurus
Marv. I've been trying to find your build, but no luck. Your Diesel build shows you drilling the T5 housing, but I couldn't quite tell what you were doing.
I like it behind the Diesel, never thought of that. My dad's truck had a SM 465 and that diesel roared going down the road. It just needed another gear. I'm thinking of putting the trans behind a Vortec 4200. The Chevy Colorado trans is a direct bolt in, but the shifter is too far back. I've found a Muncie to Ford adapter, but I am already going to have to use a bellhousing to block adapter. I don't want something hodge-podge. I do have a little concern about the trans holding up. The Vortec engine has 250 ft lb. of torque at 1500 at carries it all the way to the red line, peaking at 275 at 4200. So, it's a stout mid range motor. Any advice will be appreciated. |

Re: Any T5 gurus
What you have to do is bore the lower bearing bores in the NWC housing. You then have to drill the four holes for the bearing retainer on the rear bearing housing. Then all the internials swap. Do not use a NWC trans as is they are the weakest. And never use a s10 input shaft use the camaro input shaft. If you do all this it will handle 300ftlbs if not abused. I did more to mine but I have a lot more torque.

Re: Any T5 gurus
I don't think I'll be able to drill for the bearing plate like you did with the Trans I found.
Must be some differences in the case designs. |

Re: Any T5 gurus
Whitedog,
Found you over here too. Can you post some photos of your T5? Here's the 1993 WC T5 from an S10 I talked about. I think it's what you are looking for unless you want a Camaro WC T5 like marvgarr68 said above. The V8 Camaro input shaft is 1.125" in diameter with 26 splines. The S10 and V6 Camaro input shaft is 1" in diameter with 14 splines. This is a 1993 S10 T5. It is a WC T5 with a 14 spline IS and a Muncie pattern WC case.

Re: Any T5 gurus
Here's what I got. It has the same 26 spline input as the Cameros. A 4.68 bearing retainer. A S10 tailshaft.

Re: Any T5 gurus
OK, so I've been told by a T5 tranny shop in Atlanta, GA that the guts in your 94 will install inside a WC T5 case with a Muncie pattern (1988-92 Camaro/Firebird or 1993 S10). That seems like a good option, however the length of the input shaft may be an issue for you. What is the length of your 1994 IS from the front of the case?

Re: Any T5 gurus
I'll have to measure the input. I know the trans is from a 4cyl. I'm also sure it's a WC, I'm also wondering if there is any strength difference in it vs. the V6/V8 models.
Apparently it is an oddball, I'm not even for sure if it's worth the hassle. |

I just found something interesting. The photo below is a bell housing from a GM 305ci engine. I bet it came off of a Camaro because 1993 and newer Camaros had the FORD pattern T5. It looks like a universal bell too because I see 4 more holes that probably match the Muncie pattern. Anyway, you can see marks where the tranny bolted on and that is the FORD pattern. I think your S10 T5 would bolt right onto that bell. You still might have to deal with the fact that your IS is too long.

Re: Any T5 gurus
Ok, this is an old thread, but I have a question:
Will a v6 t5 off a 97 s10 bolt onto a 79 350? Bell housing and all?

Re: Any T5 gurus
If the 1994 S10 tranny was bolted to a 4.3L, I’m wondering if the tranny he has might be an NV3500. If the bell housing is integrated to the tranny case, then it’s an NV3500. A T5 can be removed from the bell.

Re: Any T5 gurus
The t5 was never behind the 4.3 in the s10. From 88-92, the hm290/5lm60 was used. 93 and later had the nv3500. The 2.5/2.8 trucks(93 and earlier)had the t5. The 2.2 trucks from 94-95 had the t5. The t5 was not used after the 95 model year in the s10.

Re: Any T5 gurus
Ok, thanks. I saw a 5 speed at a junkyard and the guy told me it came out of a 97 s10 and called it a t5. It didn't have a removable bellhousing so I was kind of confused. I did find a 93 4 cyl t5 which is a WC and Muncie bolt pattern but I didn't want to find a Jeep Cherokee input shaft. I figured if the 97 s10 5 speed he had laying there went to a 4.3, I should be able to bolt it to a 350. Just wondering. Thanks!

Re: Any T5 gurus
cool. Hydraulic or mechanical clutch? Is it fine for just a 200 hp 350?

Re: Any T5 gurus
Hydraulic release bearing. It would not bolt to a 90 degree v8 or v6. They were only put behind 2.2 s10 from 96+. They aren't strong.
