Re: I want to learn to weld! Advice from experienced welders welcome
I learned to braze and silver solder from my dad.
Then later took welding at trade school as part of my electrical trianing/apprenticeship.Yes,we were required to be able to stick weld.Even galvanized steel. And,I've passed several plate tests over the years. Don't ever learn to gouge! It ain't worth it! After that training, mig welding came easy.Like using a hot glue gun! My son's a professional welder.Does pressure vessel work. It's a very good trade to know. You'll find you are always welding something and wonder why you didn't learn sooner!Or,how you got along without it. But,mostly it takes lots of practice.Even good welders get "rusty" and have to practice to stay good. Mike. |

Why take a class when you can just buy a welder and screw things up on your own?
