Question About Edelbrock Vacuum Ports & Charcoal Canister

I'm trying to figure out how to connect my vacuum canister to my Edelbrock carburetor. This thread outlines most of the connections:

I'm not sure where to connect the small line that comes from the center cap of the charcoal canister. I'm not sure, but I believe this line opens and closes a valve inside the canister.

I have my distributor vacuum advance connected to the port on the front of the carburetor labeled "1" in the picture. Should I connect the center cap of the charcoal canister to the other fitting (2)?
