Door Alignment

I could use a little help on this one, on my 72 4x4 pickup I am getting ready to replace inner and outer rockers I want to make sure the door is aligned before I start so when I put on the rockers on it is right. In the picture below the door is out quite a bit from the rocker in the front the back of the door is fine and it is in as far as it will go at the hinge. Looks like the rocker was replaced before do you think who ever installed it didn't align it properly (will I be able to move the new rocker out that much 1/2" ?)or maybe there is a problem with the door ? door is not rusted and looks like original skin.
Anyone run in to this before ?

Thanks
John
