kick panel/Rocker replacement question

I have been working on getting a floor patch/kick panel and rocker replaced on my 66..got to a point that i have a question to see if others have had this issue...On the repop pieces, they dont fit like gloves as we all know...My issue im having is with the kick panel..where it curves and meets up with the inner rocker does not lay flat...this causes the outer rocker to hang up and not be able to slide over that area. I was wondering if anyone else dealt with this and what they did to remedy it...since it will end up inside the outer rocker, i wonder if you can just take that piece off of the kickpanel. Ideally, would be to cut weld etc to get it to lay flat, but i dont see how you can do that on the curved edge.
