Cutting rear springs

I've seen in a bunch of builds and specs on static dropped trucks that people cut their springs. Is there a formula or chart that says how much cut would produce how much drop? I'd like to drop the rear of my 66 c10 lb a few inches and figure this would be a cheap way to see if I like the look
