Temp gauge question

What kind/year is this temp gauge? How can I make it work?
It always shows full hot after the engine is running a short time.
It has an internal resistance of 50 ohm. It shows hot if I connect 12 volt directly to the it. Is there a resistor missing?
The temp sensor has 800 ohm and it decreases if going hot.
I've replaced it with a new one, same thing.
Is it the right temp sensor?

What's wrong with this gauge?
It's a 61 Pickup truck.
Any idea?
Thanks.
