Hot air choke conversion question

I built a motor bout 20 years ago and just threw a random carb on it I had laying on the shelf. Now that my father is starting to use it more in the winter for plowing snow he is having issues with the choke when its cold out.
I took out the round hot air choke thermostat and replaced it with an electrical conversion kit he purchased. There were no instructions so I just kinda winged it. I used the key on power wire from his non exsiting ac plug but I don't think its closing and opening up correctly. Any tips or suggestions would be great.
