New K5 questions
Ok, I just bought an '87 K5. It has the TBI 350/700R4/NP208 combo in it. I want to know how much smog crap I can strip off this engine without screwing up the ECM.
Anybody want to chime in? Thanks in advance.

Re: New K5 questions
I didnt know Fort Worth was in Wise county. The EGR, EVAP & A.I.R have electrical over vacuum solenoids that need to be plugged in or the MIL will come on.

Re: New K5 questions
It ain't but if I put Rhome nobody would have any idea where the heck that was. I'm guessing I have to get my chip programmed from what I can find searching the world.

Re: New K5 questions
Why bother? You will not gain anything. A custom burned PROM is a waste of money on a stock engine.

Re: New K5 questions
I know that but I gain from stripping all the emission crap out. In order for it to continue to function after removal of said devices I have to reprogram the chip right? I've been playing in the carb world for 20 years so this is my first foray into the ECM world and I just don't want to make any costly mistakes. I am fairly certain that takin the cat, the smog pump, egr and charcoal can out along with running new exhaust with true dials will dramatically improve the peformance of this truck. So, again, taking all that crap out an still retaining the tbi requires a new or reprogrammed chip? If not then I'm all ears on what I need to do to make it work without spending 350 on a custom burn.
