Re: Hard Top Removal Bracket

Mine is 4 eyebolts, 2 2x4s and some rope. The 2x4s have the rope going through a hole drilled in them, then the rope goes up through the eye bolts and has a loop tied in the end. I unbolt the top, lift it from the inside and put the 2x4 under it. From the outside, I lift the ends of the 2x4s and put the loop over the end. This puts the top about 6" above the bed wall. Then I drive out from under it. Total cost is about $12 and I can remove/install the top myself.

These are older pictures as I have the forward 2x4 going through the front door area so I can drive the truck in and out of the garage.

Re: Hard Top Removal Bracket

I myself have seen some other designs that do look more complicated. This seems plain and simple and the way to go. This design is what I'll be using also.

Re: Hard Top Removal Bracket

I did the same thing as bouncytruck, but I used ratcheting tie-downs to lift it. I then put the rope on there as a backup. This makes it real easy to take it off by yourself. I just park under it and it's out of the way. However, I haven't put it back on for a few years.

Im gonna give this a go today!!! Since the trusses are exposed in my garage I put the eye-bolts in the 2x6s that are under the top and will wrap the other ends of my 4 new ratchet straps around the trusses...a few clicks at each corner and the top should come right off.

Re: Hard Top Removal Bracket

I have one I made for the wifes wrangler, havent tried the blazer top yet. Cosco has a rafter storage system that has 4 cables and attaches to a wire shelf. I removed the wire shelf, attached rubber coated J hooks. I back the jeep in, remove all the hardware, lift a corner at a time putting the hooks in. The main piece has a kind of winch thing with a circle that you put a hook on a rod thru, and spin up or down. Kind of like an awning (sp?)

Re: Hard Top Removal Bracket

I use a cheap DC winch with galvanized wire rope that goes to a pulley placed over the center of gravity. It transitions to a 3/8" poly rope and a spreader bar with 4 down lines. 2 from each end. 2 of the 4 down lines are large hooks that pick from the front seat radius. The other 2 are 1/4" rod that are bent as hooks that pick from the hatch as close to the hinges as possible. Those are covered with old heater hose to prevent damage to the top. Can't find the pictures but works well. I like the long tether switch that allows me to steer the top and pick/place the top at the same time.
