I just cut the rocker out of my 71. At least my Bubba used scotchbrite and bondo.. Built to last that way!

Like you already know rebuilding this piece is what's gonna suck.
If you can save that corner, you're golden. If it were me I'd get some extra bedrail to re-build the corner out of then butt weld it to the new bedside.
