Or better yet, go to a AAA office if you are a member. They will do all registration stuff for any vehicle. This is for CA only as I do not know if they offer this service in other states.

I found it, WAC 204-10-022. like I said oddly specific!

Quote:
(8) Frame: A motor vehicle must be equipped with a frame. If an existing frame from a recognized manufacturer is not used and a special frame is fabricated, it must be constructed of wall box or continuous section tubing, wall channel, or unitized construction capable of supporting the vehicle, its load, and the torque produced by the power source under all conditions of operation. The structural strength of the frame must be certified by the builder as meeting the applicable standards set under 49 C.F.R. 571 Parts 201, 214, 216, and 220 through 224, and the SAE Standards. Such certification must be made by either:
(a) Certification provided on the vehicle in the form of a label which has been affixed in accordance with FMVSS outlining the portions of the FMVSS which have been met; or
(b) A notarized letter from the builder of the frame outlining the portions of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) which have been met; or
(c) If the vehicle is a kit vehicle, as outlined in RCW 46.12.440, documentation from the manufacturer of the vehicle frame that informs the owner that the frame has not been certified as meeting the applicable federal motor vehicle safety standard set under 49 C.F.R. 571 Parts 201, 214, 216, and 220 through 224, and the applicable SAE Standards.

I through in a 54 235 with it and officer used that number as the vin. (Texas does that for 55 and older. The vin plate was missing on the cab.

Anyways in his findings he says it's a 54 Chevy truck and a presumably 53 cab. This drive the Waco dmv crazy and they wanted to title it as a 2016 assembled vehicle or a rat rod type. You try and do thinks the legal way. Lol

Called the officer back and he Referred me to a gal who used to work for the dmv and has her own title company. She knows her stuff and for $250 said she would get it titled as a 53 and also include the bond etc. I'm
Starting to lean that way after getting different answers from Austin and Waco.

Before you preach that I should of bought a titled vehicle. This was a parts truck
For me real cheap but I'm pursuing this ave so I don't have a gmc title for a Chevy truck. Lol anyways thought I'd share this with you and see if you have any feedback. At this rate it might be easier to just say it's a 54 but then the common sense goes out the window. I mean if I drop in a crate 350 is it a 2016?
pssh! for 250?? jump on it. here in az, i had to tow the truck to dmv,, get the inspection.. pay 300 for just the bond... so the whole dealio ended up costing me 450+ ....

That should get it done without more hassles.

The "officer" who inspected it must be related to the one in in that area that gave me a ticket years ago and wrote 68 Chevelle on the ticket when I was driving a 69 Olds Cutlass. He had the tag right but sure didn't know his

Re: Title issues in texas

I just wanted to follow up just in case anyone finds this useful, I am holding my bonded title in my hand right now! Its a 53 chevy and the title says 53 chevy truck. Wish they could of put 3100 but I can't complain. I did it the legal way and I am happy. Now I just need to get my brakes working and figure out if I want a classic or antique plate??? Thanks for all your advice!

Thanks for the update. Based on what you had to do, would you suggest this route to other people?

Re: Title issues in texas

Ya I would recommend the company (autotitlerecovery.com) but I know how the system works I would do it myself next time. It's all in the wording from the inspector. If it's ambitious your screwed. The guy worked with me and I even typed a 2 page document with pix to prove beyond a doubt that the truck was a 53 and attached sources. Then it was just submitting the paperwork. I'll upload the documentation as a template for any future use.

Bluf: do your homework bc dmv won't.

Re: Title issues in texas

Oh ya here is the pic. She's running good. 235 with 3 speed Saginaw. I just fabbed up 3in drop blocks and took about 2 leaf springs out from the front and the back. It's got a 77 c10 wiring harness and just getting the lights working for inspection.
