Re: 67 long box
Man I feel for ya... have an extra shot on me. Its gotta be hard for a guy as meticulous as you are. All the work I've seen you do is perfect! Well lets hope and pray that the second time its smooth sailing. It will be interesting to see if you are able to find the dang culprit. It drives me nuts when I don't know the reason why something failed, for fear of replicating my mistake.

Re: 67 long box
I seem to feel like I've been here before and I didn't even beat on it yet. It was a cam and lifter set from sealed power which is not the best but I've not had bad luck with them. I guess I'll buy pro comp this time and some new bearings, Clevite , and some moly rings. I might as well bump the cam up to a 470-480 lift as well. The 440 lift sounded a little to mild when it did run. Looks like I might need the crank ground, hopefully just a polish.

Re: 67 long box
Stupid headaches have had me down for bit again, but I'm back at it. Not good news on the bearings, so now I'm doing the bottom end. I hope they can polish the crank, it's not looking good either. One of the rod bearing is different as well. The machinist really screwed this thing up, now it's more my fault for not doing it right after the head issues, so new rings , hone the cylinders, oil pump, bearings, cam, lifters, gasket set, pre-lube, oil, filter, and grind the crank.

Re: 67 long box
Now I've just noticed the first 4 cam bearings are in wrong. #1 is 180 out and 2,3,4 oil hole is inline with the crank oil feed at the bottom. It's no wonder I'm having issues and the three main cap bearing wear.

Is that something you did or did someone else do that?

Re: 67 long box
I didn't do the bottom end other than the pump, I've spun bearings on rods after I've checked them so this time I left them alone. I know now I should have done the whole thing myself. The machinist had the block upside down when he did the work or a lot of beer. It's just bad work.

Re: 67 long box
The previous owner had or did the engine work and combined with me trying to save a couple a bucks buying crappy parts. Unfortunately engine parts you install are not usually covered, they will replace them with the same but I don't want crap again. It sucks but I foot the bill and my ass for doing it right the first time.

Re: 67 long box
Well the block is at machinist getting cleaned and getting new cam bearings installed. The crank was taken to be ground 10 under. So all new bearings, cam ,lifters, rings, oil pump, oil filter, pre lube (moly) and a gasket set. Good for another $850 plus grinding and clean up. Should be at $1000 to $1100 all done. That doesn't include me assembling. If I lived in the states I would have bought another motor.

Re: 67 long box
All the new parts are in and the block just needs to be honed, cleaned again, and frost plugs installed. I've got the block back from the machine shop with the cam bearings in and hot tanked. Time for me to get to work.

Re: 67 long box
Started on the second snorkel to my 2 bbl factory breather. So I should have twice the volume to the 4bbl and still look factory.

Re: 67 long box
I got all the pistons re-ringed and the frost plugs in, so a final cleaning tomorrow and assy. I'm hoping in the next week or so as long as the headaches cooperate to be driving it.
