got the 72 longhorn home

previous owner brought the truck to me yesterday. At first I was just going to part it out because of the rust but I have a line on another one that has good metal. This one has some really cool options that I am not used to seeing around here which is the main reason I bought it.

Re: got the 72 longhorn home

Glad to hear your plans for saving this truck. Once you dig in they may change again but for now lets hope for the best.
The camper special emblem and the tepee emblem are both later GM square-body parts that were back fitted. Would really like to see the SPID if you don't mind, I'm a numbers guy.

Kinda pisses me off that they drilled holes in the glove box door to desacrate the truck with squarebody parts looks like they will go up for sale regardless.

Richard, Don't forget me now. Is this really going to be a part out or will you try to find another home for it?

Re: got the 72 longhorn home

Too bad the AM/FM isnt' still there but it still has killer options. Is the No spin still in the rear? Curious if the fogs were a dealer installed option or just aftermarket?

If you look at the dash bezel, the switch below the headlight switch is marked fog lights and is molded into the bezel like it was from factory.

I have not had a chance to see if the no spin is still in

I assume the pb on the radio spid option stands for push button?

Re: got the 72 longhorn home

I have not seen many Cheyenne Super Longhorns, or Longhorns with the side tool box. Curious if it is a Dana or Eaton rear.

I have a 70 Longhorn, it is a Custon Deluxe, but pretty well optioned with AC PS PB BB 400 looks like original teal (?) paint but no Longhorn emblems (?)

Even less Longhorn Cheyenne Super 30s! No-Spin is the HO52/72 and Power-Lok is the Dana. But,all C/30s have HO72s and leaf springs.

I don't believe those fog lights are GM accessories. I've seen them on every whatever and they aren't in the accy catalog. That sure is a fine batch of options, though.

Tim,
I did not think they were factory either until I saw the switch on the dash. I will take a close up of it when I get home tonight.

If you look in post 3 pic 3 just below the headlight switch is the fog light switch. Embossed in the dash panel above the switch it says fog lights exactly like the headlight choke & throttle id tags

The only one missing is the real short lower one just in front of the tool box on the bed. Everything else is there. Woodgrain is faded on pass side but it is all straight.

Re: got the 72 longhorn home

Know the feeling!
Don't have any pictures of Wyle with a paint brush though. Getting ready to check the dogs and crash myself. But to touch on a few things before I go.
Those emblems were added after it left the factory.
All Longhorns had leaf springs. On a C30 the Chevrolet (Eaton) 7200 was standard.
In '72 both the AM and AM/FM radios were pushbutton.

Re: got the 72 longhorn home

Well... yes. It is hard to find a combination of working and pretty options. Usually it goes one way or the other it seems. A Cheyenne Super 30 pickup (longhorn or stepside) is low production, add buckets and an AM/FM the number gets smaller. With A/C, tach and a BB/4 speed, smaller yet. No Spin and a manual throttle too... well that and the other options just make this the truck it is. For me it would be a huge and hard to justify expense to import this to california in addition to performing a full de-rustification/restoration.

Not saying a derustification is impossible but would most definately not be cheap unless another donor truck is found ( which i think I have.) The cab is salvageable with rockers and possible cab corners but it will need bed, tailgate, doors, fenders, hood and support, just minor stuff really
