70 c10 4x4 frame conversion question
Hi i have a 70 c10 i am looking to convert to 4x4 by putting a k20 frame under it and was wondering if you could put a 73 and above style frame on it and how difficult it would be to change the body mounting points and how different are they from a 67-72 frame? Has anyone done this before or know about it? thanks

Re: 70 c10 4x4 frame conversion question
You will hear this alot, the easiest best way to go is to find a donor frame for the correct year. The later frame can be made to work, but they are different wheelbases and cab mounting will be totally different. Not to mention I believe you have to use a body lift kit to clear certain parts of the frame.

Ok is the newer frames longer wheel base longer so I'd have to lengthen the body or how much longer is it and is it wider?

Re: 70 c10 4x4 frame conversion question
It can be done but like was said before you have to modify body mounts and use a 3" body lift for the bed to clear the frame. The wheel base in only a couple inches different but it is noticable when you look at the side of the truck and the wheels dont line up in the wheel wells. Its still very drivable though. Im sure there is a post or two on the site where someone has documented it.

Re: 70 c10 4x4 frame conversion question
keep a look out for a 2wd frame with rear leaf springs.and swap over the front susp to 4x4 . thats another option . most gmc frames had rear leaf springs.
