vent window assembly

As anyone, I am trying to save some $$$. Can the rubber on a 72 vent window be replaced?? How about the little chrome "opener"? The hinge "rivet" has been replaced by a screw on the passenger side. Can that be repaired? I really don't think each assembly needs total replacement.
THANKS!!!!

Yes the rubber can be replaced
You will need to drill out some rivits to seperate the assemblys.
Yes the vent handles can be replaced.
They are held in by a pin which you drive out with a punch.
Yes the hinge rivit can be replaced.
I have seen these for sale in catalogs just have not done it myself

Someone stated that you can replace the vent seal without the removal of the rivits by cutting the new seals.
I do see how this can be done, but I chose the disassembly method.

Then when you have the units complete and insert back into the door the question will be does the lower lip go inside or outside.
You will understand this more when you get to this point.

Have fun

another vent question. How do you replace the felt on the divider bar. I have the new felt but have not done this before.

window felt

Now, I know the answer to that one. I have replaced the felts on both doors. There may be a better way, but this is how I did it. Remove your door panels first. Roll down your window, then take needle nose pliers and wherever there is an "end" of the felt grab it and remove it from the channel. It goes all the way down inside the door in the channel "groove". Once that is removed, be sure you get all of it out. Then get some 3M weatherstripping adhesive (black and gooey) Run it all through the channels and then carefully insert the felt. I started from one of the window corners and worked it down into the bottom of the channel inside the door. Press it in flush and smooth then roll your window back up which will help it "set"

KP are you talking about the felt on the divider bar. It sounds like you are talking about the felt on top and back edge of window. I thought the felt on the divider bar was more difficult.

KP1972 yes the vent window rubber is available separately you can find it on our site here part# 132063
http://www.gmcpauls.com/Rubber&WS.htm
directly below it you will find we offer the repair kit to install it that contains enough small blind rivets to install the vent window rubber on both doors, 2 large blind rivets for the hinge on either side, a blind rivet installation tool and 6 screws to reinstall the vent window to door frame leading edge to top door pillar. You will find chrome vent window handles on the following page of our site
http://www.gmcpauls.com/door_parts11.htm
part#198384L/R, its all in stock available to be shipped.
Jwill41 the division bar felt is held in place originally by the division bar which the factory crimped inward at either end this crimp will lock the division bar felt in place top and bottom when forced into place, some use 3m weatherstrip adhesive through the middle of bar also but I have never found the need. If your current division bars have the stainless steel beads on rear edge of them when GM installed this SS bead it quite often got a portion of the division bar felt caught under the ss bead when it was crimped in place, take a razor knife a cut along SS bead entire length top to bottom on inside and outside grasp division bar felt at one end and pull out of track. Install new.
