Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Lookin good!!! Is your s-10 a short bed? If so are you going to make the bed shorter or lengthen the s-10 frame?

ive been looking for a longbed donor for weeks, so ive gotten an eye to seeing the diff. i made this pic for a "wanted: longbed" ad... these are 2ndgen S10s, but the idea applies to the 1stgens as well. |

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
It is a long bed. I specifically looked for a long bed/ standard cab after reading that was the optimal option to look for on these swaps. I know you can make the others work, but I chose this to have some sort of simplicity to this rather custom project.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Sorry for that question,my eyes are playing tricks on me (late night last night) I also used a longbed on mine and it got me pretty close (just a little long on the wheel base) but my 4-link will fix that.Keep up the good work and keep us posted!!

MrDude... The local pull a part in knoxville seems to always have a few long bed s-10's on hand cheap if you dont care to drive a few hours.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Congrats on the s10 find and good luck on the sale... I hope you get close to what your asking for that. I posted mine on Craigslist and wasn't anywhere in your asking ballpark- it did cover the cost of the pieces I kept, though.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
I put those mounts on that rollinrooster posted (no blame rooster- just referencing the post). the engine is way to far forward! the cab mounts for the front of the cab are 2" in front of the oblong hole on the frame near the original front s10 cab mount. The fenders are almost dead center on the tires...maybe a half inch to 1 inch forward of the wheels center line. I would venture to say I have about 5-7" of space from the firewall to the distributor on my 350. I also have tried the s-10 v8 conversion engine mounts that were originally on the s10 and they were about the same spacing as the ones purchased. What am I missing on this?

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
What I ended up doing was plating over the orginal engine mount locations with 1/4" plate and reinforcing the perimeter with 1/8". This gave me a "clean slate" to mount my block wherever I wanted.
Since the mounts on the frame on about a 45 deg angle... I opted to shift my block to the passenger's side about 1" to give clearance for the intermediate shaft. I used the S10 2.8 liter mounts and 1 1/4" standoffs on the passenger's side and 2" standoffs on the driver's side. For headers, I went with late 80's truck FlowTechs and brought them in about 1 1/2" (cut and re-welded at the flanges). My block is about 1 1/2" from the firewall and the same to the 3 core rad I'm using. Just what I found to work... Cheers, Ted.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Let's just put it this way... ordering things like this, where I live, is a real pain in the ass! But, I've been fabbing stuff for years, so this is no exception!
Build of course... 1"x2"x1/8" wall tube steel, and just used the tab off the original x-member Cheers, Ted.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Here's a couple of pics from yesterday...
No idea what the measurements on the crossmember, but I can check... it's all weird angles... I just made the full long bar with the double bend on a 3 1/2" drop (could have easily made it 5") and the two long angles on the sides... layed it up, scribed the cut lines and fit it all (with the engine and trans where I wanted it and tacked it, then out and welded it up. The bends are just a series of cuts (about 9) 1/4" apart that don't go through the outside face of the bend, bend (nice curve) and rewelded and ground back to shape. The tabs are different heights due to the engine requiring offset to the passenger side by about 3/4" (tall ones go on the driver's side). The engine mounts are just tacked in now, but when I pull the block and trans (swapping out the trans with a rebuilt here shortly) and weld them up fully, I be able to take better pics. Cheers! Ted. PS Had to trim down the top tabs to 1 1/4" from center of bolt hole from the 1 1/2" shown... for intermediate shaft issues.... (shifted it sideways to passengers about 1/4")

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
vintage car....
If you use the mounts you will have to switch sides (left mount on the right / right mount on the left) you will have to modify the mount on the passenger side to clear the fuel pump. I'm kinda like thadious and after looking at all my options i'm just going to make mine. |

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
In my case... I'm using an 88 block... no mechanical fuel pump on mine!
Cheers, Ted.
