Great work Now how much do you charge to do 1 rocker, lower door skin, and a small patch at the bottom of a fender?

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....
Hey drumbuilder, talk of a seminar must have been in jest. However as we get to warmer weather we should have a local get together. Maybe the boss will let me plan one here at my place. Never know. Looking ahead to warmer days...........

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....
Thanks EB, Ill get a few of those. Maybe a dumb question here but I need to remove the complete cowl vent to get access for some repairs and rust issues, reinstalling and then welding the drilled out spot welds, do you have any tips for welding back drilled out spot welds? most info only talks about welding the replacement panel. Is this covered in your dvd series?
Again, thanks for sharing your help and knowledge. Lance |

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....
EB, it appears that rust has gotten under the area to the right of the blower motor hole. also, my driver door pillar, has an area that is pin holed above the lower hinge and its behind (aft) of the vent panel. in order to get access i would need to remove that outer area like you did for the cod fish project, except I want to put it back after repairs are done.
was thinking it would be easier to remove the whole panel, would not have to cut anything, once repairs are done then could reinstall that panel. your thoughts? Lance Last edited by lgarret; 02-10-2011 at 02:47 PM. |

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....
Hey Don, looks like you got it going pretty good. One thing I did this winter on my daily ruster was made a recirculating cab heater. On the non A/C cabs, the heater takes most of its air from the outside. It comes from the area at the cowl opening out across the lower windshield. Thats not bad except when you're behind some exhaust puffing vehicle then you get chocked out inside the truck. I made my non A/C cab kind of like an A/C cab by welding shut the cowl plenum and removing the vent door on the passenger side kick panel. You could just leave it open and not remove it like I did. Anyway, now the heater fan takes the air from inside the cab through the kick panel vent sends it through the heater core, then back into the cab via the defrost vents in the dash and the heater opening at the firewall/floor. No more smelly exhaust fumes.

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....
dadsworktruck,
I have the same assy manual and was looking to remove that entire cowl vent and then reinstall it if possible. Not sure about welding drilled out spot welds and what that would look like. I was hoping to get some feedback from EB about that removal and reinstallation process before I go and just drill the spots and remove it. all my other bodywork is almost complete, cab and bed are in primer now. will try to post some pic's of my project tomorrow. lgarret |

Re: butt fit butt welded marker lamp install....
Hey Lance, if you're going to replace the whole cowl plenum then I think your best to drill all the spot welds so you can just weld it back like GM did. The only thing I can think of to suggest is to be careful not to drill all the way through so it will be a little easier to weld back. There is a lot of welds to remove but I think thats the best way. You can also grind some of the ones that you can get to. Its a lot of work but should be well worth it. Post some pics and maybe start a build thread so you can get feedback from other members. PICS PICS PICS! we love pics!
