Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I'm looking at a 1990 Chevy truck brochure. The pix on pages 14 & 15, show the tailgate of a white stepside 4x4, with the black band on the tailgate and the 4x4 decal on the fenders. The fleetsides that are shown include a red 4x4 and a black 2wd. The black one seems to have decals at the upper rear side of the bed. The red one has large 4x4 decals in the same location.

The only thing about trim for the Sport Appearance Package, is Silverado. There is nothing about a specific engine or transmission requirement.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Actually I purchased a Chevy truck in 1989 at Plains Chevy in Amarillo, texas. I do not have it anymore totaled it in a accident. It was a 1989 chevy stepside with a conversion done by Regency(I think) It had been lowered by factory. Had running boards and body kit. Paint(complete vehicle) -midnight Blue metallic. Wood trim inside with bucket seats with center console. It had a 5 speed manual transmission. I was told the engine was supposed to be 454(but it wasnt ready) so it had a high performance 350. I was also told it was only available in 3 states-Texas,Arizona and either California or Oklahoma. It also had Rat in pinstriping on each door. It was a single cab 2wd. Had custom rims. On the inside of the door it said Cheyenne. I know there was a red and a white one on the lot when I bought it. Ive been trying to track one down and unfortunally I cant find one or even anyone that knows what Im talking about. Still looking though!!!!

Regency did a lot of conversion trucks. They have since gone out of business I believe. They had a shop between Ft. Worth, and Denton. I used to work at a Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealership in 1995/1996 and we had several of the Regency trucks on the lot. They used the Cheyenne trim level trucks to do the conversions a lot of the time.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Found this clean-looking 1990 Sport on Ebay for what seems like a really good price; thought I would share. It would make me nervous that there are no interior pics, and he doesn't go into a lot of detail in the description, but I thought somebody might be interested.

Plus, I love this thread and refuse to let it die

The buyer needs to check this out thoroughly. It has Ontario Canada plates on it. I'm in Ontario and recognize them. Ad says the truck is in New York State.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Saw this thread come around again and remembered I saw a picture of mine a while back, so I dug it out. Mine was a "beater truck" sad to say...I always like to have at least one work truck in my stable, and at the time all I had to drive was a Mitsubishi Eclipse, which doesn't handle 8 foot 2x4s or loads of gravel very well.

I know I have a few more pictures somewhere, but from what I can remember it was unusual in that it had a V6, chrome front bumper, 5 speed manual and I believe either a full bench seat or a 60/40. Definitely no console or buckets. Interior was the same color red as the 454 SS.

Interesting to note (I didn't read it so far), as delivered, the 454 SS had black center caps, the Sport models had chrome.

Yeah. When I started this thread, almost 3.5 years ago, I never imagined it'd still be going in March of 2011.

It is optioned with bucket seats, AC, power windows and locks but no tilt column??? It also has the painted bumpers but is trimmed on the lower part of the truck with gray and a red stripe. Here are some pictures of it.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I dont mean to rob this thread but I actually stumbled across this website looking for info and parts regarding my "Sport" truck.Does anyone know where I can purchase the trim molding(black/red pinstriping) along the doors and 1500 emblem?.I was hoping to find an outside source besides dealer.Thks for any help. Also does anyone know if the buckets were std for Sport trucks?..I seen a lot of "Sport" trucks with buckets, but mine has the 40/60 seat?.Someone said the 350SS decals were added in 91 and 92 got the Sport decals..mine is 91 and it has the "Sport" decals. My truck is missing its OEM bumper but has the correct rear.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Welcome to the board! Nice truck. We'd love to see bigger pics. I know LMC truck sells the molding and emblems; LateModelRestoration might sell it too. And I know that some Sports came with the 60/40 seat; buckets were an option. As for the 350SS stickers, I don't know...I've seen them, but I think from what's been posted here, they were never a factory thing, but maybe a dealer add-on instead.

Sports trucks could be had with buckets, 60/40's or a bench seat.

But I've never seen a "Sport" with blue int. or the "dumbo" style mirrors, I'm not say yours is not a true "Sport" but you might want to do a little digging and see if it has the RPO code of BYP.

Nice truck either way

I've seen the big mirrors, but never the blue interior.
