Are the Big block motor mounts being made new????

Not talking about the stands. The rubber/metal motor mounts that bolt to the block??

For 68-71? mount to engine.

For 72?? But these mount to the frame stand.

sources?

thanks.

Re: Are the Big block motor mounts being made new????

Got mine for my 71 from Wes at Classic Heartbeat. I did buy a pair from Classic Parts also and though they were exactly the same type they were slightly smaller...still got em, unused.

Did you use the 72 stands? Aren't those 72s?

I think the 71s are different. They mount to the block like the earlier ones, right?

Re: Are the Big block motor mounts being made new????

There is a different style which confussed me in the beginning when I was looking to replace mine, but this is what was already on mine.
These are the stands for mine, and the difference in size between the mounts.

Yes, you are correct in that those are the 72 type pictured, but he probably used 72 type towers on his 71. No way they would have mounted up to 68-71 towers as you cannot mix and match the parts between the earlier 68-71's and the later 72 type. Mel

Re: Are the Big block motor mounts being made new????

Mel,
thanks for the info. My local parts house can't find anything in their system for either style.
Do you know who makes the mounts you listed? Are they made by Anchor?

Nigel
The ones you have are 72 style. The mounts and clams you had look kinda strange.

Ratchetmaster,
Just in case you didn't know, Classic Bowties (Mel) is a vendor. He could have just chosen not to provide you with info from 3 other vendors but he did not. Instead, he helped you out. He is an outstanding guy like the other vendors associated with the board. KUDOS to you Mel.

I must admit there are those who know more than me on this subject, all I can say is that the towers & mounts on mine are for a 454 BB, now im not sure if the same style was used for the 402 and what year in particular each type may have been used.

I'm guessing they don't make the early "stands" for the BBCs which is why we get a fortune for them used.

Nigel, the stands you have pictured in post 5 are for a 72 with 402 big block. 454 was not available in these year trucks. 68-69 had 396 and 70-72 had 402. Those stands pictured in post 5 are 1972 402 only. 68-71 used the old style mounts. Hope this didn't confuse anyone...

Mel is a good guy and helped me out many times with my goofy questions. And I have purchased things from him. I definitely trust anything he says about our trucks.

He isn't a board vendor though. I noticed he really doesn't list much for sale here, but with his knowledge and great pictures he posts all the time for our education I'm guessing he must be and off site vendor of some sort.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. Too often, I see someone ask for help or assistance here with the topic/reason of post only getting muddied up with half correct/sometimes incorrect info by some of the fast typin-mega posters, I always try giving my best two cents whenever a topic comes up that I may be able to add some helpful input too. Mark is correct about not being a board vendor, I do love tinkering with these old trucks and own several along with a ton of parts and options for them, but commercial fishing is what pays my bills. The truck stuff is what I do in my off time and is really just a hobby that got way out of control, which I am sure holds true for several others here also. Mel

Have your parts guy look up anchor #349, that is what I have used in the past with the 72 BBC tower/clamshell setup. With everthing being globally sourced these days its somewhat tough finding a decent motor mount at your local parts house. To the best of my knowledge, the only source for the earlier 68-71 BBC type would be your 67-72 truck specific catalogs or the 67-72 specific parts suppliers as I had listed above in post #4.

Up until recently, the 68-71 BBC left & right towers/frame stands were both available at GM. Now they only have the RH side #954 available at $107. list for just the one side. After years of collecting, I have three sets of the #953/#954 GM NO$ 68-71 BBC towers and five of the GM NO$ 68-71 BBC #697 mount/bushing/spacer/bolt kits ratholed.

Good info there Eric, I just seen your above linked BBC motor mount Id/picture thread and noticed you left out or never mentioned the early P-series towers that look alot like the 72 C10/20/30 BBC tower & clamshell setup. You should add them in there as I know of a few people on this site that got burned on them thinking that they were the real deal 72 BBC C-series setup. Mel

Hey Eric, here are some pictures showing the multi year P series (foodcart/delivery/cargo/bread) truck towers and the 72 C series truck BBC/402 towers side by side. I doubt that you have been as you would of known it if you or any of your buyers had tried to mount/use them. At a quick glance they do look the same but they are not, due to the stamping, angle and bolt pattern differences, they will not line up or set correctly on the C series truck frames. Mel

This is great information as I am getting ready to install my freshly overhauled 396 into my C10. I didn't remove the engine, the PO did, so I need to research what I have for mounts and verify I have all the parts.
