1965 turn signal / brake light rewiring issue
Hi, I have spent a couple of hours searching through the forum (through electrical section and doing searches) and several electrical books and have had no luck finding my issue.
I was wondering if any one had a wiring diagram for the 64-66 chevy trucks? I have a 1965 chevy truck with a 1966 bed (has backup lights) most of the wiring was bad or gone so have been wiring it all myself. I have been checking my work along the way. And all is good, until I hook up the turn signals and park lights. parts used are new 14 ga wire and HD turn signal switch # 910-62860 (aftermarket turn signal switch from speedway) (original switch to the truck is damaged and missing parts) The left taillight has 3 wires coming off of it and the right only has two. So, assumed that the 3rd wire was for ground. The turn signals work fine with that hook up, but the park lights will not come on and wires get hot. So, disconnect the 3rd wire on the left side and park lights work fine, left turn signal works fine, but the right turn signal slightly flashes both taillights. any help is greatly appreciated Thanks Rick

forgot that 3rd wire from the left bucked is ground to the frame and not the body.

Re: 1965 turn signal / brake light rewiring issue
Here is what I have. The first one is the engine compartment and the front end and the second is the cab and dash. The third is the rear lights.
The three wires off the left lamp are a yellow which is the left turn/brake wire and the tail light ( brown) and another brown for the license plate.

Re: 1965 turn signal / brake light rewiring issue
I found it to be a ground issue with the right tail light. Found this by taking another taillight and hooking it up off the vehicle and it worked.

Re: 1965 turn signal / brake light rewiring issue
Hi I to have a electrical problem with my 65 C10 and the issue is that when I put the L or R turn signal on, my front blinkers start blinking at the same time.
and I've checked my fuses and they look fine and I replaced the wiring harness for the rear end. and the rear right is dim and I've checked the lightbulb and has nothing wrong with it. So then I found out that the front blinkers don't turn on when I put on the headlights. And there's this switch that in on the bottom close the to the right side of the dash and idk what it leads to but this wire that is connected to it and goes all the way to the back of the bed but not hooked up to anything and my idea is it could be a ground wire and the condition of the wire is poor. (additional info-it was a 3 speed on the tree and I converted it to a automatic with a TH400 and the engine is a inline 6) So if anyone has anything that could help or knows what's up with something like this please let me know ! |
