56 mater cyclinder conversion from floor to firewall

Does anybody have any tips or have completed a master cyclinder from the floorboard to the firewall while keeping the drum brakes, I have a reg. master from a 67-72 chevy pick up and the brake assembly from under the dash. I'll proably have to modify unless someone knows of a year that will work better.

Do You have to drop out the steering wheel column to have better access? How hard is it to install a newer column with power steering?
