Differences in Windshield Rubbers and Trim

Three of us took our '71, & 2 '72s to the glass shop today to put new windshields in. We had bought new rubber gaskets at the FLAPS and the glass shop had brought in three windshields, it was all so easy. And the guys at the glass shop were pretty pleased to have a mini car show in October, it attracted a lot of attention.
All three trucks have deluxe seals with chrome trim. The guys at the glass shop (all too young to have done chrome trim much) fought with the first one, but had it down pat for the second one. When they came to mine, there was a problem. The part of the trim which goes into the gasket is about a 1/4" longer (deeper) than that portion on the other two trucks and will not fit into the rubber seal that we have. It came out of a good seal, but they had to cut the seal to get the windshield out and since we had a new one, nobody thought twice.
Does anybody know why one set of trim would have a deeper protrusion into the seal than others? Is it perhaps an earlier windshield trim? I am in need of discovering how my trim is different from the others and where I can find a seal to suit it.
Thanks,
Corveric

Re: Differences in Windshield Rubbers and Trim

There is no short answer so here goes.
The original gasket and trim are a matched set meaning the same year, your new gasket is the wrong year.
There are two different gaskets and trim 67-70 then 71-72.
Edit:
I dont know for sure which year gasket and trim was the deep set, so you will need to find out.

Re: Differences in Windshield Rubbers and Trim

Okay, based on this information, that there are two different versions, we have a '71 and a '72(The ochre and the red one) with shallower trim, and my orange one (a '72 ) which has the deeper trim. SO perhaps the trim on mine came from an early model and the shallower is the correct for a late? Or the other two both had an early model chrome and mine is correct. Either way, I am sure I can determine somehow which is which. All three trucks are fairly original trucks and it is hard to guess which is using incorrect parts.
Thanks Brian for your input here.
