1968 GMC P-10 Ice Cream Truck

Starting a thread for my p-10 that I got about a month ago. It was last used as an ice cream truck. My plans are to make it into a cool ice cream truck low rider. So far I'm really liking the style of these and how different they are.

I think the previous owners had a freezer right behind the drivers seat. The c channel under the floor and the floor were rotted badly.

Re: 1968 GMC P-10 Ice Cream Truck

I picked up a steering column from the junk yard, mine was trash. It is a mid 70's column. The previous owner changed the transmission to an auto. All I had to do to make it work was change the steering linkage to the steering box.

Nearly finished with the floor today. I had to make up a few new floor supports for the section over the transmission.

I got my new seat and pedastal installed today. It's been nice taking a break from paint striping.

Re: 1968 GMC P-10 Ice Cream Truck

Question for any P-10 owners, have any of you upgraded to power brakes? I'm curious how the booster fits.
Also, has anyone put in a small block? Seems like the drivers side would be too tight.

Have you looked under the wood on the floor yet? I just got done re doing some of the floor supports in mine.

Do you know if the front bumper is the same as a c-10?

Yes, when i changed the transmission, and dropped the tank,it looks like its been 4x4 in the mud for years but were i live at is very dry so nothing bad just extra dirty.

Re: 1968 GMC P-10 Ice Cream Truck

I'm looking to do an air bag set up on mine. I am looking at ekstensive metal works, they have a dual compressor kit for about 1700. I don't think I'll C-notch it. I want to get as low as I can and keep the floor the same.
Any suggestions?

I haven't study my companies yet but i'll check out your and see what i come up with, Im 50/50 on the C-notch, it can work out great as a theft deterrent, can steal a car if its on the ground but also im not too happy about having a hump on the inside of the P-10.

Im always thinking of theft deterrent and safety.

Re: 1968 GMC P-10 Ice Cream Truck

I ordered all of my air ride stuff yesterday. Ekstensive had a 20% off sale. This will be my first time installing an air ride kit, wish me luck.
