Re: '74 Honda Z50
Jim, actually I was thinking of a 80's or 90's model with motard tires, a pipe, and mini-apes. I'll have to find a good runner at a cheap price though.

Re: '74 Honda Z50
I let this sit a while but have been messing with it again lately. It might even run again. I cleaned and degreased the engine. The side covers are off, I used PB blaster-soaked-red scotchbrite pads on the engine to give it a reasonably even finish.

Re: '74 Honda Z50
I'd never messed with a centrifugal clutch before, but it seemed like a good time to figure it out, at least well enough to put new friction discs in. The steel shims looked great and were reused. All Honda parts... I masked off the center section and gave it a new coat of satin black. I cheated on the side cover and painted it with Chevy rally silver since that's what I have and still dig it.

Re: '74 Honda Z50
I powder coated the foot peg and kick stand parts, got them together and back on the engine.

Putting it back together. The fork-stops are broken off the frame, wish I'd noticed before now...

Re: '74 Honda Z50
Looking good John. You'll be running it down the street here shortly. I think you need at least two of them.

Re: '74 Honda Z50
I probably need three, with two sons in the house. I would have put 100,000 miles on one of these if I'd had one growing up. Just neat little bikes. This is a screw-up, I should have caught this. Oh well. I took it apart to make room for welding and made a stop. I bought a welder but don't have gas or experience yet so a friend is going to burn this in for me. He's under the weather now, we'll get it fixed soon enough.
