Hello, I am new to the site. I am building from ground up a 1972 3/4 ton 4x4. As of date every thing under the truck has been powder coated, including the bottom of the bed pan and cab. We even went as far as to powder coat the fire wall inside and out. I am wanting to build this as a big block. Do you think this will hurt the end result or help it. Any thoughts?

If you go with a bib block, I think you will need to make some modifications to your firewall that you already powdercoated, in order to make it fit. There are a few old threads out there on the process of fitting a big block into a 4x4. Do a search and see what you find.

How can an engine "hurt the end result"? Not sure I understand the question... It's your truck. Build it as you see fit.

The engine won't hurt the value any more than all that powder coating.But it's true, the firewall requires modification to fit a big block

agree with Tim - if concerned about originality because K's never came with big blocks from the factory, the pc negates all that. You've already kissed her, ya might was well marry her. Big Block!

I had a 72 Blazer and was able to install a BB without any firewall modifications. It was very tight and if I remember correctly I had to use stock valve covers in order to clear. Aluminum covers would not clear so thats how tight it was.

We're using a 4l80e and adapter to a np205. this combo pushed the engine forward enough for plenty of clearence on the cab.

Hi 3/4GMC,
I'm with PeterHall, I have a 72 K10, BB396 and there is no firewall clearance issues. The HEI isn't going anywhere without pulling the motor though.

Not to sound stupid but I am, what is 4180E and adapter to a np205 is that the motor mount?

The 4l80e is the overdrive version of the turbo 400 transmission and it requires an adapter to mate to the original np 205 transfer case in your truck.

3/4GMC, I can get some crappy cell phone pics of both mounts and the cab clearance if you like. The PO put the motor in and did a great job. I don't know exactly what mounts they are, sorry no help.
