Re: "Project 72 Monte"
Nice! They are the sexiest of all the Montes.
There was a super nice one that someone drove to Clemson while I was there somewhere around 2002. It was a 70-72. He was either a drunk or an absolutely terrible driver. The first few months I saw it, it was absolutely rust free and a clean/straight car with what looked to be a Maaco repaint. Every couple of months it would be banged up on a new corner, to where all 4 corners had some pretty heavy damage. It looked like a demolition car after about the 2nd year I saw it. It was always parked behind the library.

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
Wow, that was quite a smack!
Did the A-pillar/Door hinge mounts move at all, or did just the cowl area get crushed?

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
It will need a small amount of pull on the cowl area but not to bad, it amazes me how tough these cars were built back in the days.

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
I'm jumping in on this for sure, I love it! My '80 Malibu was in the same condition when I first got it (took a good shot to the right front), it was even very close to the same color. It was my first car at 15 and I spent a good two years working on it to bring it back to life. I had it done to drive to school for my senior year. Looking forward to seeing the progress you and your son make on this Monte.

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
Thanks Corey, it is definitely a good project.. I pulled the upper control arm off the donor and bolted it onto the 72 so we can bolt wheels and tires on to roll it around anyways. A little more carnage to the wall of shame.

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
Also pulled off the heater box the damage to the firewall seems very minimal and should be easily repaired

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
They are getting harder to find good parts for I know, and a lot of the parfs are not reproduced. Looking for a good grill if anyone happens to see one, it must be a 72 grill

Re: "Project 72 Monte"
I actually have it within a 1/4" now the door edge was overlapping the quarter panel and now it is actually closing with a minimal gap. A few more tugs here and there and I believe we will have it. Going to pull the two body mount bolts out tomorrow and do a tug there and on the windshield post needs to raise about a 1/4" also. I love resurrecting the dead.
