Re: Getting ready for Hurricane Irma (Going to ride it out)

I survived here in central Florida. Eye passed right over me. Luckily it was starting to fall apart. For those that have never experienced the wrath of Mother Nature its akin to laying on a railroad track between the rails and having a train roll over you at 70 MPH....for 4 hours.

Thanks. Hard to describe the sound. Like tearing fabric inside of a jet engine.

Re: Getting ready for Hurricane Irma (Going to ride it out)

We got the eye wall here in Longwood/Wekiva area. My fence got beat up pretty good, but no real damage to the house and no big trees down in my yard (can't say the same for the rest of the neighborhood). Cell internet was nonextistent, but I am at work in Orlando. Hearing I will get power back by Sunday maybe, but that is questionable since I am on a grid with only 6 houses while the rest of the 700+ neighborhood is on one grid. It was 84 in my house yesterday at 7:30 p.m. Glad the rest of you guys are doing well.

Re: Getting ready for Hurricane Irma (Going to ride it out)

I got power, but if I had a choice I would almost trade to get rid of all the water. Still 19" over the driveway...can't leave. ...but I got somemore beer imported. LOL. Tow service will come out when it drops below 18"...sucks

Re: Getting ready for Hurricane Irma (Going to ride it out)

Water dropped a 3-4", but it just stopped raining...I'm guessing 1-2". I'll find out when I measure the driveway tomorrow. Today it WAS at 17-3/8" at the deepest point.

Is it just standing water or still flood waters? Do you have a ditch/channel/creek close by? *IF* you do, buy a sump pump?

Still flood water...neighbor and I figure it's about 10 acres of water over 15 acres of flooded 7 lots. Some with and without houses. And there isn't an easy way to pump it out. Neighbor tried pumping accross the road, but local yawhos and lookie looz kept running over the hose eventually busting it. Might be able to pump it to a field at the back of our lot.

Re: Getting ready for Hurricane Irma (Going to ride it out)

Have you tried to get your local city or county municipality to pump out the water.
