Re: What block am I ?
Where are you getting this number from? A pic of engine might help..
I came up with everything from women's watches to a 2006 Honda civic to a house for sale in Oregon |

Re: What block am I ?
You sure that second "1" isn't a "4"? The number 14088548 comes back as a late model 350 from 1986 to 1994.

Re: What block am I ?
I think the "4" in place if "1" may be right..

Re: What block am I ?
Sorry, it is a V8 and I misread the casting # should read 14088548. That makes more sence. Is there a way to identify 4 bolt mains without pulling the oil pan . Thanks all

Re: What block am I ?
This, http://www.1968ss.com/sbcnumbers.asp , says it's an '86-'88 in either two or four bolt main.

Re: What block am I ?
Chances are if it was in a truck, it is probably a 4 bolt. But you can't truly tell unless you pull the pan. Don't get hung up on 2 or 4 bolt main. Unless you plan on building a 500hp Mouse Motor a 2 bolt can be beat on pretty hard and survive many many years.

Re: What block am I ?
Agree. Only way to be sure is look. And considering SBC main caps are registered within the block, advantage of factory 4-bolt is greatly exaggerated. Great way to up the price to unwary buyers though.

Re: What block am I ?
What they said...........just to add, I have never seen a (factory) 4 bolt main in a half ton since ????? Probably 1970's.
3/4 ton and 1 ton - sure.

Re: What block am I ?
i'd rather have a studded 2 bolt then a factory 4 bolt.

Re: What block am I ?
Not 100% but it there is an oil port over the timing cover, it's possible a 4 bolt. Where I am there are roundy-rounder tracks within an hour from each other. Friend used to build engines for many of them, and lived next door to another buddy's junkyard. He had it for over 20 years, and had all kinds of stuff come in. But would always look for that plug for hopes of a 4 bolt. But like others said, not really a big deal. In fact, of all the motors I built over the last 20 years, can only remember one being a 4 bolt. Big blocks and small. One was a pretty nasty 468, 2 bolt block....
