cut line.long box to short box

I have a good long box lower rear panel to replace rotten section on a short box but for the life of me I can,t find the the cut line that people use to make a long box to a short box. I need to know how much of a section I need to take out and weld together to make it a short box panel. Not a pic of bad section .

Is the whole wrap around under the tail light as well that needs replacing

need a pic of the rotted section....with that being the tapered section of the bed that's going to be tricky to make a lwb fit a swb....but it can be done. ...

It,s the bottom of wheel lip and rust under the tailight. I read along time ago on shortening a long box to a short box and they described cutting so many inchs from each end of the box so the curve matchs but can,t find it now. I just wanted to section the long box panel to fit but don,t know where I should cut the middle section out.

perfect, that is the one I wanted. I guess I didn,t have the right wording and now with photobucket gone to crap some of my saved threads are gone. It should be easier doing the sectioning on a bench [i hope] and I,m going to add the 78 side chrome trim so I can hide my weld behind that. Thanks for your time on finding that.

I would strongly suggest this as well. Perform this work on a bench and then you can planish the weld and straighten out any deformity while there are no outside forces on the panel (such as being welded on a truck) Once your new patch is complete and stress relieved, now weld it on the truck.
