Re: Boom Mat

sound mat doesn't have to be continuous, i cut the mat into a lot of little pieces and stuck it on the inner door skin
i also had a lot bigger opening to work with

if you do spray anything in there don't cover the bottom drain holes obviously

Re: Boom Mat

mat and spray are two different kinds of sound deadening. asphalt mat prevents sympathetic vibration of large flat panels by adding mass and dampening the ability of the panel to virbrate. spray prevents reflection of sound waves from hard surfaces. one is dampening, the other is absorptive.

use mass on big flat panels, like door skins. like ogre says you dont need complete coverage, just to add mass. by that same logic you dont need multiple layers because it will have diminishing returns and you will see the most dramatic results with the first layer.

use absorptive in large reflective areas, like in a car trunk where sound waves can bounce around. normally absorptive layers work well on steel interiors but are pretty ugly, and cloth/leather provides the same benefits.
