HELP 1991 Chevy 2 door ext cab - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I know nothing about a 1991 Chevy truck. My mother owns one with 40k miles. When something goes wrong, she calls me and I'm to repair it over the phone and 500 miles away. Here is the story: When it rains, water leaks in at the top of the door. A local "handyman" told her it needs new weather stripping rubber on the door. (not the cab). I talked to LMC Truck and was told there is not a weather stripping rubber on the door, just on the cab side. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? and point me in the right direction short of me traveling 500 miles to look at the door. FYI my mother is 88 years old.

P.S. What I am asking is: Does the door have any "weather stripping" attached to it, or is it only on the cab side of the door?

Cab side only; no seals on the door. The seal can get dislodged and possibly pinched. I could only guess what could happen if an 88 yo is driving the truck.

I know the truck has low miles but the hinge pins and bushing could be worn too, causing the door not to seal.

Very possible. I didn't think about that. Worn bushings and hinge pins in combination with a maladjusted striker could cause problems, but then the door would also be difficult to close. I imagine someone 88 yo would use the door to support themselves as well. Fortunately I'm not at that point yet although I am of age to collect my SS.

Thanks everyone. I was almost certain there was no rubber on the door. I too thought of the possibility that the door is misaligned due to having weight placed on it to assist an old person to get in and out of the truck. I told her to take it to a dealership. They would determine what the cause is.

You need the Drip Rail Weatherstrip. Mine did the same thing till I replaced it. It's the purple one in the pic or "F".
