CL find, half S10, half camaro?

I stumbled across this while rummaging around CL. Can somebody explain to me why you would put a camaro clip on an S10 frame? Or visey versy?

I don't know about the Camaro part but it looks like they shortened the wheelbase some.

Yep, the rear fenders are moved forward. It just makes no sense to change the frame and then the front suspension, makes no sense.

Re: CL find, half S10, half camaro?

From the looks of how the wheels set in the fenders and that they aren't deep reverse I'd say they used a Camaro subframe with an S-10 4x4 rear frame half.

I'm not a fan of the shortened bed on that one though but a short box frame or maybe even a Blazer frame could be the reason there.

If you have ever had an S-10 4x4 stripped down to a rolling chassis you see so many brackets and widgets holding things on the front plus the torsion bars that using them for a frame swap that doesn't include the 4x4 setup is going to be a lot of hours of cutting and grinding.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

S10 front track width is very narrow; guys usually run 2" or wider wheel spacers when using them on AD trucks. I'm guessing the builder used the Camaro clip to widen his front track width without resorting to spacers.

That's an idea.

Re: CL find, half S10, half camaro?

if going to all that work why not just build a whole new frame behind the camaro clip, one that fits the truck in the configuration desired. or, build a whole new frame with a new IFS front end instead of (probably) a worn out front end.
who knows, maybe the dude had the parts, some mig wire and lots of time, lol. maybe just practicing for the real deal. it's fun identifying problems with stuff for the newbs who are trying to figure out how to build theirs though.
I could never figure out why guys will take an old frame, lop the front end off and weld ona clip from something else, then lop the rear end off and weld in a big c notch. the only original frame is the part the cab is bolted to. why not just fab a whole new frame out of rectangular tubing and then it doesn't have so many places to fail. build a frame table from scrap steel beams that are really not that expensive at the scrap yard, considering the cost of a new custom frame. sell the table when done or return the steel for scrap again.
just some thoughts. guys have their reasons.

This ones a little odd too. You can see where they widened the fenders to fit over the 60's frame.

I HATE the whole "frame swap" BS, but I have to say, outside of the fake "patina" crap I DIG that truck!

I saw that one already. Super nice job on the fender widening. I'd have no problem owning that truck.

Re: CL find, half S10, half camaro?

Widening those fenders was a lot of work to use what was probably a free chassis. Still I could see myself driving that one as a daily driver. Slick the body out, drop it off at Maaco in Kennewick and put it back together and have a presentable driver.

Almost everyone who has been on here for a while knows that I am not a fan of frame swaps just for the sake of swapping frames. If you don't have a frame, have a damaged frame or the wrong frame then a frame swap is ok but to rip out a nice 3100 short box frame to stick a worn out 200K plus mile frame from a junker under it to be one of the cool guys with a frame swap doesn't cut it in my book.
