Looking great man. I'm taking notes. Question. I see your using a large gauge wire for grounding here. Most places I read say to use the flat ground straps instead so you don't get feedback into the wiring system causing things like your speakers to have feedback from vibrations and engine revs. What are your thoughts on this?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Thank you for the props.
I have installed grounds from the frame to cab kind of like what was stock.
The ground you see is basically for the amplifiers only. By installing the ground stud in the original nut that is welded to the cab that secured the original gas tank. I added the 4gauge ground to each amp then a 2 gauge ground under the cab to the frame.
From my experience the ground loop (engine noise)is usually caused from the signal equipment. Stereo, EQ etc.
I hope this makes sense.
I hope to get back on the truck next week.

So if your stereo gets ground from the cab, and you have that big ground connected, will that cause issue? Or did I miss your point? My mustang always had engine noise in the stereo especially when I had my phone plugged into stereo with aux cable and also charging via cigarette lighter at same time. I don't want to make the same mistake in my truck but I don't really know what caused this...

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

On your application you would need a ground loop isolator.
It happens when you connect signal wiring like AUX cords and/or phone chargers to your stereo.

My son had the same probably you mentioned. I added the ground loop isolator on the rca connectors fixed the problem.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, much appreciated. And again, your attention to detail is awesome, I've taken notes and tweaked them a little for my own build I like what you've done so much. Keep up the good work, your gonna have a one of a kind really nice truck

Edit. I only grabbed technical ideas btw, didn't want it to sound bad like I'm stealing your hard work, gotta have my own design of course...

No worries use what you could use. I like when people use ideas they find here because if I can help someone that is great because many on here have helped me... probably way more than I have helped!!!
good luck!!

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Hey guys I hope all is well and good fortune in the new year!!!

Update on the truck:
No pictures but we took the doors off to drill holes in the door and door jam for the rubber boots for door wiring.
We also took the hood and cowl off. We wet sanded all panels and will be re-clearing the truck with 3 heavy coats of clear starting today.
I cant wait to see the finishes product.....
Pictures by the weekend.

3 heavy costs of clear on tonight. Got to love a heated paint booth. I was watching from outside in the cold.
Cab is moving in tomorrow and will be cleared by the end of the day.

My painter said a total of 5 coats of clear. He said I won’t believe how flat and smooth it will be when it’s wet sanded and buffed.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Hey guys. I was able to get the panel cleared and the cab. I drove the truck for the first time down the road because the paint booth was 2 blocks away. It drove great but brakes are a little touchy but there is no weight in the truck. So we will see how it is once the truck is assembled. We are going to let the clear cure for a few weeks before we touch the paint.

I did have a set back. Someone wanted my stuff more than I did I guess because I got broke into. They took all my hand tools, cordless tools, all my air tools and my tig welder. Oh and they also took the vin plate I had in the tool box waiting to get put on. It insured but some thing can not be replaced.
Sucks but I learned a big lesson.
Anyone have a k10-20 Vin laying around????

That totally sucks they stood all your tool. Someone stole box from my house before Christmas. Got lucky and Amazon replaced everything.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Thanks guys.
I have to figure a way to secure my building and the yard before I replace any tools. The night I got hit 3 other businesses got it also, some for the 5th or 6th time. Sad thing is I had cameras and I got to match a guy with a Spider-Man mask on walk around like he owned the place. Wheel barreling my stuff out the door.

I now have WiFi cameras on the inside that alert my phone and iPad on any type of motion.
Sick feeling. But For $150 I think everyone should have them. $150 could have saved me a lot of headache and grief. I bought the Ring spotlight camera battery type from Home Depot.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Hey guys. Got some great news. Our towns finest busted the guy that ripped me off. I got probably 80% of my stuff back tonight. Tomorrow I will start to organize it and see what is still missing. This guy dumped all my tools plus others is a plastic bin and threw away all the organizers and cases. Wtf. Tweakers!!!
I even got my tig welder outfit back. It was 200 yards from my shop at an apartment complex. It was the maintenance guy for the apartments.

Anyway now to organize my tools and get back to work on the truck.
