New target acquired

Ok I've found yet another truck worth pursuing and I love hearing your feedback soooo. It's a 69 long step with a healthy sounding 350 a previous owner claims was built .030 for a dirt track car. The rest seems fairly original body wise. He sent a lot if pics and even a 2 min video I'll share if its wanted and if I'm allowed and from what I've seen it looks fairly solid. The floors and cab mounts look good as does the frame and even the bedd looks pretty good. Of course the rockers are bad but that's no big deal. The windshield is smoked pretty good which isnt great. The interior needs help but it's not jeepers creepers material. My initial plans are power brakes upgrade and front disks. I do prefer a shortbed but after watching a guy on YouTube cut a long step down to a shorty I'm very confident I can too. Who knows maybe I'll love the long step and keep it. The biggest bummer for me was the 4.5 hour one way distance But if I give him his asking price of $8000 he will haul it to my door.

Great color and excellent patina. Sounds like it’s a runner so that’s good.

Re: New target acquired

1) I understand cab rust is just something to be accepted with these trucks, and 2) a cab swap isn't exactly impossible.
but maaaaaaaaan that thing hasn't got much cab left to go with your bucket of rust for $8k.

I get that prices aren't what they used to be, and a typical project is just assumed to need rust attention.......but I really can't believe 8k gets you a rotted out cab like that. Doesn't look like much other work was done to it; it got an engine, exhaust pipes, lowered(?), tiny donut tires.

Apologies for being harsh, not like I'm an expert.

Re: New target acquired

Longbed Stepsides are a lot more rare than the Shortbeds. Is it a C/20?

Actually the truck my replacement cab came off was a '72 C20 longbed step. I considered it a very oddly-optioned truck.

Re: New target acquired

Rare doesn't always mean desirable or pricey. Longsteps have a (wholly undeserved) poor reputation and therefore tend to bring less. Then, too many either get chopped up or converted to Fleetside (or both).

Longsteps Forever!

I fully understand and wish more people understood rare doesn't mean $$$. This guy selling this truck is one of them. It's been on marketplace for probably a long time and I only found it by expanding my search area. His original asking price was 13k and lowered to 9k when I saw it. He agreed to deliver it for 8k and thankfully for this forum i reconsidered. I told him it needs too much to be legal and safe so he came down to 6500 leaving transport up to me. I turned it down wondering if there is an issue the camera cant show and hes trying desperately to unload it. Hes going to have to come down a little more for me to make the 8hr drive to see it but I think he stalled at 6500 and I'm not upset. Thanks forum folks 👍
