Front calipers

I'm discovering painfully late that almost no one has front brake calipers that will work with a '70 C10 spindle and 12" rotor. I'm redoing the front end and bought new '70 spindles, then realized the calipers I had sitting in a box for years would not fit that spindle. I figured a quick trip to OReillys or Autozone would do it, but no one has calipers older than '71. Am I going to have to do '71-'72 ball joints to accommodate a '71-'72 spindle or is there another solution?
Thanks!

Re: Front calipers

These trucks did not come with disc brakes until 71. So what kind of disc brake conversion do you have? Pictures may help?

Re: Front calipers

I started a thread about 1970 disc brakes, years ago. No one here has seen any such animal.
I sold auto parts from 1985 to 1998, mind you I worked in an independent (not a chain) aftermarket parts store. My parts book listed disc brakes as an option in 1970. I no longer have a catalog.....
I did have a customer come into the store wanting disc pads for a 1970. He blatantly told me NOT to bring a box of shoes to the counter. He said his was disc brake!!!

Several posted that this customer of mine likely had been converted.....I don't argue that fact...I had always wanted to convert mine. I have thee the 71/72 parts to convert my 67 and 68, when they get back on the road.

IF, IF you have a 1970 with factory disc brakes, they would use D52 pads, the pads the were used all the way from 1971 to 1987, on half tons.

If your 70 needs some other caliper or pads that are not like the D52 pads, or caliper, I'm certain someone has swapped something else onto your pickup.

I don't have a catalog any more, but I do know that the full sized Chevy cars (Impala, Bel Air) DID in fact have disc brakes that were optional form 1967 and on. From 67 to the middle of 1968 they used a 4 piston caliper, that was similar to what was used on early chevelles, and possibly other GM makes. After the middle of 68 they used the single piston calipers.

I have more knowledge of the full sized cars, because I had a 67 Bel Air. I got a disc brake setup for my BEl Air off of a 69 full sized car (it had single piston calipers).

SO, Chevhed,
I'm wondering if your spindles are incorrect?

Pictures might help, a lot!!!

If you are converting your 70 C10 to disc from drum, you will need to replace the ball joints. 71/72 ball joints will work on your stock 70 control arms. You will ned to change the tie rod ends and the center link, also...

Re: Front calipers
