12/27/11- "I hoping to fire this thing up by March"

March 2013 right? Almost a year with no updates but the truck hasn't sat idle. Lets see, I moved to a different city, changed assignments at work, kids started school and sports, needless to say I have been busy. Now my truck is parked at a shop 5 min from home where I have everything I need to get it back on the road. Just dropped off my bed and tailgate to the body and paint guy today. Should have it back next week and I can finish fuel door in the bed floor. Ride height sensors in the rear are mounted and I'm finishing fab work on some brackets for the linkage on Monday. I have a lift again so i can finish off running all my wiring and lines a bit easier now. I really am getting close I swear. I'll get some updated pics soon

Great looking project. Just read through it all. I may have missed it but what size tires are you running front / rear?

Right now I have 275/60's on the rear and 245/60's on the front. I'm definitely not going to stay with that combo, just haven't decided what I will eventually run

Re: Iced Green dream

Ride height sensors are finished front and rear. I have to take the mounts I made and get them painted or powder coated to match the frame. Brakes are all finished as well with the exception of the e brake cables. Also got the shift linkage from Lokar installed. I'm going to pick up a battery this week and get some wiring finished so we are ready to fire soon.

Re: Iced Green dream

Optima red top, radiator hoses and thermostat en-route. Its getting closer. Hoping to have some time Sunday to work on it. First time in 6 years I will be paying the DMV fees and taking it off non-op, that's how much confidence I have. Now that I have said that, I will probably not get a day off for months and progress will probably stop. Hope not!

Re: Iced Green dream

All my hoses hooked up. My distributor is getting tuned, should be back today. I need to build my battery cables, hook up some ground cables and spark plug wires and I will be ready to fire it up. I still need a weekend to do some finish wiring. I think I'm going to order a porterbuilt compressor tank mount to complete my air ride install. I have the tank behind the cab now but I'd rather have everything on the chassis if possible to make my future cab swap easier. I threw in a picture of my front ride height sensor mock up. Eventually I'll take them off and have them powder coated to match the frame. Please excuse the filthy frame. It's been sitting collecting dust for a while!

Re: Iced Green dream

Nice looking project. I am currently cutting the hole in my bed for the same gas tank you have.

Name: IMG_1350.jpg
Views: 785
Size: 20.8 KB

My project is a long bed, and the sending unit bolt landed right in the middle of the brace, so I had to cut an opening, no big deal. I am considering a fabrication that looks like this (Foose Project):

Name: Foose gas filler.jpg

Size: 36.0 KB

Can you show me what you ended up with?

Thanks, Rou

Re: Iced Green dream

Rou, I like the way they did the filler opening in that picture. Mine will be similar, getting started on mine soon. Going to mold this piece into the bed floor. It will sit flush with the top of the bed floor when I'm done

Re: Iced Green dream

Brand new out of the box pertronix distributor was bad. I haven't heard anything bad about them. I have a friend running one and he has had zero issues. I went to pick it up from the shop that tested it for me and ended up buying an MSD unit at their recommendation. More than I wanted to spend but they back what they sell and I trust their judgement. Reputable shop in Modesto, Bell and Gaines. Really nice people, just pricey. Now that I have that squared away its time to finish up some wiring. I hope to get some time on the truck Tuesday.

Re: Iced Green dream

Finally got her fired up. Runs really good. Have to trouble shoot a few things, seems to be sending raw fuel out the exhaust. The headers got so hot they were glowing like a blacksmith just pulled them out of the fire. Did some adjustments to the timing and it seems better. They aren't getting as hot and only get really hot at higher rpm's for longer periods of time. At idle they are fine. Going to hook up a vacuum gauge and do some carb tuning and hopefully it solves the problem. I need to re-wire the engine harness and get it aligned now. But she moves under her own power for the first time in 5 years!

Re: Iced Green dream

Put a vacuum gauge on and got highest vacuum at 20 degrees advanced. Headers cooled down about 200 degrees at the heads. Should have solved the issue. With the valve overlap with the new cam it was letting raw fuel out the exhaust. Little more fine tuning and we will be dialed in
