I have 3 1 tons now.67 (in progress) 81 wrecker,and my homemade 1ton 4x4
On the 67 frame.does someone need the dually rear, front susp.cradle complete, this is a 67 GMC chassis. the rear is a 4.56 and is the narrow type,no wider than the cab.the wheels are 18" ones, split orignal GMC wheels, they can go with the rear/front too. Let me know. I am running a late model dana 70 4.10 gears and 87 dually front susp. This 67 has the aux 3 speed trans ,behind the granny 4 spd. Very cool.Twin stick setup.. Erick,
Do you have any pics of that twin stick set-up. Are the 3 additional speeds lower or higher gears?? Does this offer a OD for the highway? Thanks! BTW, was you still needing that Monza stuff, I never got a call.

Blazerman, Great trucks. That '70 is a very nice truck. How does that 292 run/pull with those 4.10's?? My '67 has the 292/SM-420/5.14's and seems like you are driving a tractor rather than a truck!! It feels much stronger than the 396 in my '69 C-30 up to about 50 MPH. After that, the engine is all out of breath. I drove it around a good bit today, and oh man, does it love the dinosaur juice. I am going to save this engine and rearend even after put the turbo diesel and 14 bolt in it. It would be great in a an old flatbed or junkyard truck that doesn't have to get out on the highway.

I would like to see some Pics also. I think I have one of these Aux 3 speeds, kicking around in my shop. I would like to try and use it, but I don't have any specs, model No., RPO, etc. or how it mounts. I will take some pics of mine. The only info that come close that I have found is a Spicer 5831-B. Any help would be Greatly Appreciated.

Thanks Thats a good start. Is that top plate that mounts to the crossmembers, removeable from the transmission?

67_C-30, I have not drove it myself yet, my son took it to try and get it inspected but just drove it a few blocks. This truck had 5.14s but joe swapped in the 4.10s, it should make it a little easier to drive on tha highway. My old Stude 1-1/2 ton was geared in the 7s , that was fun to drive.
7gmc2, not real sure what I'll do with it, I had thought about a 4x4 conversion. As for the bed I was going to build a steel bed for it but steel prices right now are really up there. My neighbor is checking into some aluminum, he built one for his 1 ton and it came out really nice.

http://www.6066gmctrucks.org/spicer-5831-b.htm I was going to use one of the spicer boxes in the 72 C30 in my avatar, but ended up finding a Doug Nash overdrive unit for a TH400. It bolts on the trans in place of the tailshaft, and is electrically shifted in and out of overdrive. Its overdrive ratio of .80 will turn my 4.10 rear into 3.28 which should make for nice highway cruising with the 402 big block. Last edited by Chris H; 04-04-2005 at 09:43 AM. |

Here are some pics of the truck with all the trim rings and center caps.
Bisquik , Chris H & Truckstuff, Thanks for all the info on the Aux transmissions. That is a very cool set up! I know where a salvage yard that has a lot of Med duty trucks. I am going to try to find one. Blazerman, those 4.11's should be a lot more highway friendly than these 5.14's!! My '67 C-50 has a 2 speed rearend, and in low range, I think it is is the 7's or 8's. We're talking 2-3 mph, wound out, in 1st gear!!

I found these on Ebay. The straing bid is $50 + $15 S/H. They are the only GMC ones I've seen. They end in 13 hours, so you may want to check them out pretty quick. I sent you a PM also.

Pics of the fleet
Here a few pics I snapped today of my fleet. The pics are of my '67 C-30, 67 C-50, and 69 C-30. I have a '70 C-10, and a 70 GMC C1500, but these are the ones I am using, fixing up, and keeping. I hope I can get the body work done on the '67 within the next few months, and hopefully I can get the 2 67's painted at the same time. I want a very good paint job for the '67 C-30, but I could handle just a decent paint job for the C-50. With some of the places I have to get in to get cars, I would scratch up the paint on it in no time anyway.

Seeing as though mine is done yet I will have to post a pic of our old dodge work horse, this truck is amazing for pulling. Its got about 450,000 km on a 5.9l cummins. It even pulled the load in the second picture like the trailer was empty.

67_C-30, Thats a tough looking fleet you have, do you run a salvage yard, tow service? or just use them for yourself?
