Hi Jon,
After many discussion with manufacture in China for glove compartment.
Here is the final, I know you don't like it but due to the raw material and
foreign exchange rate are different they are asking for:

first 2000 pcs/each model $XX.XX/pc after that will be $XX.XX per pc

Basically, factory would like to have his investment back in 2000 pcs in 2 orders.

This 2000 pcs. ea is up from an agreed quantity of 800ea. which they already asked me to up 25% (to 1000ea.)....which I agreed to over a month ago.

Re: What parts aren't out there?

So is the shaved cowl idea DOA?

With all these ideas, you probably haven't had a chance to play around with the shaved bumper idea yet...
There was someone on this site that was photoshopping front ends of 67/68 front ends with different grills/turn signals/bumpers and that's where the suggestion came from (can't claim the idea).
One of the ideas/pictures he put up with the shaved bumpers was the elimination of the front license plate shape in the middle too. It looked really clean

I imagine it would take a lot to make the mold etc... It's amazing what their doing with plastics nowadays... maybe if it was in chromed fiberglass or something easier to model.... I don't plan on using the bumpers for tapping things and it would be lighter so I wouldn't really care.

I wouldn't care if that shaved cowl came in good quality fiberglass too... they do it for hoods and it should be easier to mold and manufacture than metal

well I think there might be a market for those little plastic triangle things on the top of the door on a blazer.

Re: What parts aren't out there?

i'm looking for some fabricated or fiberglass wheel tubs that will bolt to the original bolt holes on the bed side and made 2inches wider, for a wider tire or slick. Kind of like a mini tub without welding.

I'm wondering the same thing.

And also, I would love to see a front bumper w/o license plate provision. I was just going to make my own, but if I do, I'm sticking with painted bumper. I'd like to get one in chrome (don't want to spend the $$$ to have it chromed)

On the shaved cowl let me restate what I said because there seems to be some confusion. The only way for the tooling to pay for itself is if it's a derivitive of the stock tooling (The sales of the stock cowl would hopefully pay for the tooling and that would allow variations to be made cost effectively). I bought cowl samples and sent them to the factory and we did renderings of a couple different variations- ALL assuming we'd be the only one in the market with the replacement cowl. When the STOCK cowl showed up in catalogs we abandoned the idea because there's not enough market on the stock one to justify two manufacturers making it.

How hard would it be to tool up for making hub caps? Would some one interested in it need GM's permission?

Would you mind sharing who is making the stock cowl so we can start hounding them? I don't know the tooling costs but from my pov theres a larger market for smooth cowls than vented

Re: What parts aren't out there?

Even fibreglass parts IF they are bolt on (most need a whole lot of custom fitting) and cheaper than steel

I agree that there is a market for the shaved cowl but if I wanted a stock one I can find them all over the place.

Re: What parts aren't out there?

Is the any chance of getting rear gravel guards for stepside beds? They currently make a gravel guard for fleet side models and the steps side guard is just a shortened verson of the fleet side gravel guard. These things are as rare as hen's teeth. I only saw one set of these on the board in the last 5 years and they lasted 10 minutes. There has to be a market for them.

thanks!

I also want a "filled" or shaved, if you will, cowl. As for the air that is used by the A/C system, my thinking is to use a flexible hose/duct to route incoming air from the front of the radiator support, through the engine compartment, into the plenum. That would be fresh air for the HVAC system, if you wanted it.
