Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

OK...i told you guys that i was going to start showing you all of my screw ups so here are the pics !! LOL, the pass panel i just made was to long in the front behind the headlight so i had to cut it there and then to wide on the tub side to i cut it there and then got it to narrow so i had to add more back !! and now i am thinking about just plugging the tranny cooler lines and running a remote mount cooler under the cab (any thoughts or suggestions on that are appreciated) and what is this other thing for that sticks out on the radiator (i took a pic of it) if it isnt important i might have the radiator shop remove that also ! and on the drivers side panel i will have to redo it also since i took the corner braces out....oh well these will be some great patterns !! good thing i bought a 10 ft piece of sheet metal ! ON the bright side , I LOVE THE WAY IT LOOKS..or WILL LOOK after i redo the panels right !

I think most of us have had to redo a few things during on builds, I know I did. I'm sure it will happen again for any of my other builds....Jim

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

it might be a nice idea at a later date to drill thousands of holes along the edges and put real rivits in them like on old aeroplane stuff , its not something you want to spend a week doing though .

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

I think that extra outlet is for a heater hose some of the 80's or 90's models had that.

On the trans lines could you make a removable panel to cover the trans lines if you did a hard 90 down or a couple of 90's to the side and run the line out the front and down? I would think you would have to put a fan on the trans cooler if you ran it underneath as hot as it gets in Arkansas and lack of air flow.

The longer the truck stays in the build state the more things will be changed because our minds keep seeing a better or different way to do things or pick an idea from someone else’s build. If you rush it you will be going back to change something later any way. My .02

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Thanks for posting the screw ups! It makes me feel better about myself...lol

On the plugging the tranny lines in the rad, I read this isn't a good idea. Supposedly it serves as dual purpose to not only cool the tranny fluid, but also bring it up to a normal operating temp. Typically you only use an additional cooler for heavy towing or race/high stall applications where the rad can't keep the temps down enough on it's own. This is just what I've read though and don't have any real experience with it.

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

i wouldnt have even thought of this idea if i hadnt seen it on Hazel it has an aluminum radiator without the cooler built in and he is running a frame mounted 30 inch long aluminum transmission cooler on his 700r4, he gave me the website to check it out and i also started checking around on other brands Summit has a 26 1/2 inch long one Derale brand that says it is for this exact application ie. mounting underneath where there isnt alot of air flow but the long length and all of the aluminum fins make up for the lack of airflow, all just ideas but this is what i am leaning towards doing !

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

I plugged my radiator trans cooler lines and run and external mount on the framerail for my 700R4, the temperature is fine. What I would like to do is replace the stock lines and just run the external cooler in series on the return. I think you could bend some hard lines down to the framerail and get a 24" or so fin/rail style cooler and be just fine...or don't run the external at all just do it like a stock truck. Either way, with as much effort as you're putting into making the engine bay look good, if you plug them it might look unfinished unless you can create a nice cover.
