Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

Looks like we are going to finish this job here in PA this week, the good news is our next job will be about a year and a half and close home for a change
This is happening just in time to get the ole truck finished up. I ordered some more goodies this week to have when I get home, Fesler tail lights from Tommy, park brake cables, and a remote transmission cooler with fan. I'm going to try to get some things done Friday and take it to the exhaust shop on Saturday, then possibly a "first" drive this weekend

That's got to be a relief to know your going to be closer to home. I'm looking forward to seeing you getting your truck on road and winning a " Best of Show "

That's awesome news Jason, you will be able to enjoy your truck a lot more often working close to home. Hope everything goes as planned for you this week and you get to go on that first drive.

Thanks Keith, I've got a lot to get done this weekend and it all needs to happen in a certain order to work out right. I did get an appointment at the exhaust shop Saturday morning

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

The good news and the bad news, good news is we are finishing up here at work tomorrow, bad news is I don't get the weekend off, we have to start the other job on friday But, it is close to home so I can "tinker" a little after work in the evenings. I'm going to cancel my appointment at the exhaust shop for Saturday, and no first drive this weekend either....

I had a pretty productive evening after I got home from work. I got the Fesler tail lights installed and the rear bumper brackets painted and put on

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

I want to thank Mike (mcbassin) for the heads up on the rear aftermarket bumper brackets because mine came the same way, and knowing myself I would have slapped them on and done the same thing to my bumper he did. I have tomorrow off so I am going to work on the park brake cables and install the transmission cooler with fan that I got.

I have taken the heads off because I couldn't figure out why my engine has been overheating. I pulled the heads and there are no cracks in the head gasket or intake gaskets. Did a visual inspection of the lifter valley and heads looking for a crack. I can't find one anywhere. I bought a radiator off of craigslist Monday...a.day after I took the heads off lol. I've been working a lot lately so I haven't had time to take the heads to the machine shop yet. I have a feeling I might of cracked the block.

It's picked up a little, but I'm not going to get too excited. It won't last long. Company just throwing us a bone so everyone doesn't up and quit to greener $$$ pastures.

New bumper and tail lights look great. Where did you pick up your bumper?
Sounds like it went pretty smooth on the install after you got the mounts fixed up.

Thanks Mike, I got my bumper from GMCPAULS , everything went pretty smooth I had to slot the driver side bracket a little to even up the gap but other than that, not bad. Now off to park brake cables this morning!!!!

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

Well, I got the park brake cables on to the best of my knowledge. I didn't have any of the original or anything to go by bit I think I'm missing the bracket or clip at the pedal assembly that keeps the cable from moving when you press the pedal down. After laying underneath it for hours today I think I'm going to refab the transmission crossmember to gain a little more room for the exhaust. Didn't get a full day of working on it due to cutting grass and yard work

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

I might have one of those clamps if Scott doesn't find one for you. I still need to add those to my truck too.

I am checking with GMC Paul to get a shipped price for A bumper. I had to return my second one today it was bowed up in the middle. They were nice enough to just give me a refund this time.

Mike, I'm not sure why but some of the stuff I'm ordering from GMCPAULS is coming from Southern Kentucky Classics. I do know the guys at Southern Kentucky Classics are great to deal with, I've bought quite a bit of things from them. If you have an extra one of those clips let me know. Thanks
