Re: OK who bought trucks at the Lambrecht auction??

I'll have to admit, I would have loved to buy a few more of these to have around the yard for the future! That guy that bought three probably spent between 150,000 and 200,000! Big credit card debt!

Re: OK who bought trucks at the Lambrecht auction??

I've read alot of differnt things on this auction, you can find several threads in almost all the rooms here. Alot positive, alot negative and I've come to the conclusion that i'm glad its finally over. Its a great piece of american culture and history, but they take alot of the glory of it away with the dollar signs. I wondered at first if I was personally bitter that maybe I didn't have $20-40k to win an original low mileage piece of history... but i find myself thinking that with my 20 years of history with these 1st gen c-10's, what I learn and share here, that I know I can find a better truck for cheaper and be just as proud.

Ive found my share of barn finds stashed away for 30 years, field finds too, projects dismantled in garages or spead out here or there to maybe never getting put back together again when I go parts or truck chasing. The one thing they all have in common is that no matter where they sit, if they are not on the road its one of the worst things you can do to a vehicle. So no matter how many miles those trucks have, they still have sat their whole lives. They have still be exposed to heat and cold cycles, which can be hell on not only plastic pieces, but wiring, gaskets, body panels...etc. The pictures posted earlier may not show much in great detail, but by looking at the rims and hucaps, you can assume the trailing arms, everything in the drums and maybe lower front steering and crossmember look the same. I just don't know that the history of the auction holds the value for what the truck is worth simply as a stock c-10 in the same condition as the one in the field down from my house that the owner won't sell. Its permanent yard art.

As survivors, they seem fairly complete and unmolested. They have great info and resource material for any purist or someone doing a resto mod. Seems that items have walked off at some point...I saw gauge clusters, tail light assemblies, bumpers on some (maybe ordered that way), radiators gone, original batteries installed and still hooked up, who knows if the fluids were drained properly. But i'm still glad that they have been sold and no longer sit there. Some will probably remain as is and go in collections and i'm sure some will be restored at considerable cost and time as many of us know personally.

Again, I don't find myself bitter if I rant over the cost, just more glad that I made what I consider a more sound decision over what I purchase and at what cost. With what I've learned and seen here, is that for those numbers I would expect a turn key truck properly restored with good parts and standards.

I do hope that some more pics pop up of the interiors and maybe some more underhood shots. If any one here purchased one, I would hope that they would post some pics irregardless of any of our personal thoughts.

I also think there are more cars stashed. Where are all the big block cars? The corvettes, chevelles, camaros, monte carlos? What about the traded in pontiacs gtos, Lemans, the mopars...there had to be more than what was sold or pictured. I would think with the volume of cars/trucks sold there that more cars are still to come.

And the sold around 500 vehicles for nearly 4.8 million, i'd say the marketing worked pretty good in my book.

Re: OK who bought trucks at the Lambrecht auction??

That's the problem, they may be brand new; but look at how rough the exterior is and how rusty and dirty the engines are which haven't had an oil change SINCE THEY WERE PARKED! When I got mine it was in better shape and it sat in a revene for 10+ years! And it runs! These are gonna have two be cleaned and cleaned be repainted and have the engines completely cleaned and gone through. Noticed in some of the pictures that the radiators were gone of some, well that leaves perfect hideouts for Dirt Dobbers and Spiders, and who knows what else! When I buy a truck like that, I preffer it sealed, even if it has 200,000 miles on it! At least I know it is rebuildable and don't have to worry about a family of bees in the motor!

Re: OK who bought trucks at the Lambrecht auction??

My final words on this subject.
My next door neighbor bought a new Chevy truck for $46k.
What is it worth in five years? How much cash was actually laid out including interest? Nice investment huh ?
I paid $3900 for my 65 20 years ago, I use the truck about as much as my neighbor uses his, what is mine worth? Appraised at $5000 and all I did was drive and maintain my truck.
It seems that money nowadays is just numbers on paper.
Who cares what people pay for something, it's their money ....

Re: OK who bought trucks at the Lambrecht auction??

I bought one.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDeta...1-2-ton-Pickup

It's a huge POS but only 18k miles I thought it was worth trying to fix up. Might be going straight to the junkyard when I bring it home tomorrow!

Re: OK who bought trucks at the Lambrecht auction??

Thanks for the reply jmader.....i was hoping that maybe a forum member would get ahold of one or maybe at least join if they purchased one and fill us in on the new trucks. You gotta give us more details after all the stuff we've been reading or see on it? Hows the body look in person? The roof looks repairable, doesn't look like it messed with the windshield opening any. Front fenders can be had new or fix the originals. Taill ight & park lights are easy fixes. Interior?...seat is easy to come up with. Glovebox door is easy to get...looks like most of the important stuff is there. Does it have an engine/trans? Thats not a bad price on the 64 if it doesn't have tons of issues.

I was thinking maybe Delmo would chime in here. I saw him on the History Channel show being interviewed. Wonder if he bought any.

I missed the history channel special dang. I did see some of the prices. Some of them were CRAZY. Some of them were reasonable. I do have to say most or all had straight metal.

He actually bought 6 in total. That was only the first half of the load. The second half would have consisted of another two new 64's and a new 76

I was giving the guy loading them a hand and they were headed to St.Louis, his bill was going to be $3600 to get them there.
