Suburban Ambulance Convertible
Hi Everyone, It has been a long time since posting anything new. The 1971 Suburban ambulance 4x4 half ton with 14,000 original miles has been sitting around for over two years now without any activity or being plated. I decided to make it an convertible in the same footprint as the raised ambulance top. Therefor, the top comes off and can be buckled back on if desired. Second and third row seats have been added and all the ambulance fixtures have been saved. The picture is a cut and paste from the original mock up and planning stage. The Suburban looks just like the picture now with the exception of needing a clean up and trim detailing to show further in these post. Hope you enjoy! Jeff from Indianapolis

Re: Ambulance
Due to a request from a fellow club member some photos of the engine and its details are enclosed. Although the convertible ambulance transformation is in its rough cut form and not photo ready, I have also included a few shots of the work in progress. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Ambulance
. . . .
Thanks for posting the picture of the valve cover sticker "remains" !!! Are there any numbers on the sticker or is it just a solid light color as it looks in the close-up of your picture, below ? If there IS anything else . . . a close-up picture would be appreciated. Can you see ANY part of a sticker on the driver's side valve cover ? . . . . |

Re: Ambulance
9-30-12 Hi Steve,
I went to look at the passenger side engine sticker again to see if more could be read. The rough estimated (without taking the valve cover off for a better angle) measurements of the remaining tan line of the sticker is 8" long by 1.5" wide. Using a flash light at an angle did not produce any further ghost images. The remaining foil type material is slightly smaller than the tan line measurements. Thanks, Jeff

Re: Ambulance
. . . .
Thanks, Jeff . . . I'd bet my left ear that it had one of the larger "8 350" stickers when it was new, like the one pictured below. I'm going to have some made up this winter. There is nothing on the driver's side valve cover at all ? . . . . |

Re: Ambulance
Hey Steve,
Now that I see a picture of your sticker, if any ghost impressions could be seen with the flash light angles, it would be the right hand side of the five which could have looked like an incorrect three. Seeing your photo a partial five would be in the same location. You are correct that the drivers side valve cover currently reveals no sticker. Thanks, Jeff

Thanks !!! Your information will help a lot when I have the new stickers made. I'm trying to gather all the information I can and when I see someone with a VERY low mileage engine, I ASK QUESTIONS !!! . . . . |
