Just out of curiosity, what are you using for sound deadener? It looks like a no name brand, ...maybe less expensive. How easy was it to install? Did you use any special tools? Any recommendations at this point? Thanks, Tom

I broke conventional wisdom & popular opinion and used Peel-N-Seal from Lowe's. I have used this product on several 4-5-6 Chevy trucks and have been very happy with the application and results. It is very economical, compared to the high-end stuff on the market, not to mention, it is very manageable since it comes in a 6" x 25' roll and is simple to lay in place and form to the various curves of the cab. I believe a roll is approximately $10-$12 and it takes less than three rolls to do the entire cab, firewall and back wall, behind the fuel tank. I also do the cab corner wells, under the dash and the inside of the doors and the backside of the door panels.

I have never had any issues with odor in the heat or delaminating in the cold. I also seal the joints with foil tape, to ensure a monolithic system, with no opportunity for water or vapor penetration. This product, coupled with a good quality jute, makes a hugh difference in the acoustics and thermal qualities in the cab. The factory applied an asphalt impregnated moisture/acoustical mat in these trucks and it was intended to prevent moisture infiltration and cut down on the tinny sound of the all metal cab.

I recommend doing this upgrade on the inside, coupled with a good quality undercoating on the underside of the cab, especially if it is accessible when doing repairs on your cab.

Good to know the brand. Ive never seen it, but read about it somewhere else on the board. Aguy said he had it analyzed at work and it was the same as Dynamat. That sounds like a GREAT price for doing the whole cab.

Scientifically speaking, I don't know if the products are the same, but I have purchased and used both and they look, smell, feel and act the same, but the Peel-N-Seal is much more economical and easier to apply, since it comes in a 6" wide roll, not the wide sheets like Dynamat or Fatmat. I have a $200.00 roll of one of them and it is about 36" wide and who knows how long. I don't know how you would apply something so big and so sticky, without ruining a lot of it.

I am not an expert at applying this product and I don't want to have to become one, in order to install it.

I made a little more progress today. I modified a factory automatic shifter linkage assembly to work with the 4x4 frame and Turbo 400 tranny. Also are a few pictures of the factory bench seat I recently had reupholstered.
