Re: 1972 chevy build/?'s

Well based on your trucks build date and the date info on your engine. Looks like you have yourself the original engine!!

Some people don't care about this, but I always prefer having an original engine. Even if you plan to replace it later with a better engine or have the original rebuild and pepped up, it's always cool.

Agree! I got some Finish work to do on my new intake manifold gaskets and I will see how well she runs. Hopefully without spewing oil anymore lol. Got a buddy coming out to get timing back in order today. We got it off a bit the other day.

Re: 1972 chevy build/?'s

Got a question for you guys. When I drove the truck home it was leaking oil bad and the trans was leaking as well. shifted fine on the way home and the engine was smooth. After we sealed the manifold, and got it back running I took it for a spin and now it wont shift into the last gear I believe it has 3? Anyway the engine runs smooth at idle but when your going down the road it isn't smooth. Could the transmission be causing this if the last gear is going out?

Chances are your shift linkage needs adjusting, assuming the trans fluid is at the normal mark. Pull the dipstick out and smell the fluid in the stick, does it look "blood red" and does it smell burnt? If its a dark brown color, trans might be going out of it. How many miles on it? Let us know.

Snipe idk the milage, dash has rolled over and I'm guessing 200k on the truck. But my uncle use to brag "300k and never had the oil pan off." So who really knows. Another problem is the old Rochester carb is bleeding from everywhere, where is the best/cheapest place to buy a new quadrajet carb?

I have one off of my '71 you can have for the cost of shipping, it will need a rebuild kit installed though. I disassembled it totally, and cleaned it in our ultrasonic cleaner at my work, so the messy part is done, just need new gaskets,etc.... let me know.
