Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I finally drove it!! First time since last spring. Just broke in the camshaft this morning, changed the oil, let her cool off for a bit and then took a quick spin for celebration pizza. Happy Valentine's Day to me. Gas and oil taste better than a box of chocolates anyways.

Thumbs up Working Rigs

This is very good to hear ~

Having a shiny truck is nice but never actually using it seems silly to this old farm boy .

I was at an auction where there was a nice one ton stripper long bed step side for sale ex L.A.F.D., it had low miles and ran great once jumped .

Just as it came up for bid SWMBO called and said 'I'm locked out, come home and let me in now please' so I missed it .

It was yellow and white, original fleet paint .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Made decent progress on the leaf to coil spring conversion today. It back on the ground temporarily. The conversion is complete! I put it on the ground to check driveshaft clearance on the crossmembers. It's clears no problem. I still need to get the truck on the lift to see what is going on with the trans mount. It is sitting off to the drivers side. I broke it all back down to do touchup on the frame paint. I also decided to remove the stock leaf hangers. I ran out of time today, but should be able to work a few nights this week. Also installed the 1310 to 1330 conversion u-joint.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I have reposted this from my "fix it up" thread because I'm pretty happy finding out it is a local truck (fifty miles away) and the dealership is still alive (In a new location.)

"I got lucky last night in the good way. The PO had half dozen or so old truck part catalogs along with a box of receipts he gave me when I got the WMB. I had looked through the box of receipts but hadn't paid any attention to the old catalogs. I was in the process of tossing the catalogs last night when I noticed there was some thing stuck in the middle of one of them.
Score baby! I was so close to tossing them away!"

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I did a trans filter change and upgraded the vacuum modulator from the old can type on my '67 step side . Then went to the car wash, gas station and drive with better half. Should have done that a long time ago . Apparently it needed to be done .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Took advantage of the warmer weather to pull the front clip in preparation for removing the engine and transmission. Taking the whole clip off as one piece was pretty simple with a friend helping me lift it off the frame. We'll see how it goes putting it back on...Might need a 3rd or 4th person to help line things up.

Thank you. I'll be replacing the worn out TH350 transmission with a TH400, rebuilding the transfer case, fixing an engine oil leak, and adding a fan shroud. If time and money permit I'd also like to add a more aggressive cam and possibly heads to that list but we'll see.
