Good looking semi.

That was one heck of a truck in it's day.

The one under it is quite the brute.

Re: GM Semis

Reference pic # 675..............So many of the west coast 900 GMCs had the external air cleaners mounted. Never saw anything but the original underhood oil baths in the east.
At the 2004 ATHS convention at the Ontario Speedway, seems they found 4-5 GMCs to sell at the auction . I bought the 740 with 4-71 , was pictured on the flyer with no grille and it had the exterior air cleaner. Since sold it in western Pa.

Re: GM Semis

maibe the westcoast is too hot for the underhood oilbath stuff , i can immagine those getting so hot the oil catches fire or cause the engine to run out of controll

Re: GM Semis

Watddyno--------Diesels don't get that hot under the hood like old gas jobs that would get vapor lock. But you probably heard of cool-air kits. This is an early version developed maybe 60 years ago .

Re: GM Semis

there diesels i dont think they ever had vapourlock , i was more thinking of the engine sucking in the hot oilvapours out of the underhood filter and running wild

Re: GM Semis

I think it's simple old cooler air makes more power. It gets as hot in the East as it does in the West.

Re: GM Semis

Right, it is a Brigadier.

Kind of looks like it could have an Auto Trans.

Not the best info. Besides no info on the Trans (a possible deal killer for me), I'm wondering what a 9.0 V-6 Diesel would be ?

Sure is in great condition though.

Re: GM Semis

6V92 would be 552 cubic inches, and International sold their 9 liter V-8 in the 70-80s and it's forerunner was the DV 550.

But Bill, Why are you scared of an Allison ?

The tank, if stainless, is worth as much as the truck. You could sell it to a water hauler or a northern farmer to store sap for maple syrup !

Dan,

All my Trucks, cars as well, have to have a Clutch, lol.

I've told the story a couple of times through the years that when I was driving back in the '70's, Automatic trucks were starting to surface. The mechanic told me that they may just be getting some in, in the near future. And I told him that "That's the day I'll quit" !!

...and I was serious, lol.

I've been shifting gears now for 44 years straight and have no plans on changing. I've actually passed on buying some Pick-ups that I would had otherwise bought because they were Autos.

Bill

Re: GM Semis

automatic gearboxes for trucks realy start to take off in europe too
they range from the real slushboxes to electrinicly shifted gearboxes with electric clutches
biggest reason for them to do so are the stricter emmision rules , if they keep the engine in the optimum range all the time the gasses are cleaner too and trucks here even the ones driving international do a lot more stop and go compared to the coast to coast trucks in the states

The long awaited pictures of the V12 in an MH 9500 113" BBC are on the ATHS forum since yesterday. It's a V12T besides. Perhaps someone here can grab and repost the pictures here.

Dan,

I haven't been over to the ATHS site in so long, I had trouble finding it, lol. I well remember the debate that some say they were Factory. I've actually talked about it on here a time or two through the years.

What is the up-to-date bottom line? Do you think it is possible that there were some Factory built?

Wasn't a listed option in '70

Re: GM Semis

Not sure what years, but the 12V-71 was available for sure in the GMC Astro (Cab-Over).

No 6-71 available in a Chevy 90 in 1970 ?? I'll have to double-check some of my books on that one.

Nice looking early tractor above, by the way.

Looks like it's restored to new.
