Funny stuff, right there, but I don't remember this, specifically. Amazing what does stick. At the time I had a Harley, so maybe that's what cemented the "fastasssumbechee" comic into my memory.

Re: VW Bugs

I think the van builder referred back to the Speed Freak series of drawings and models of the late 60s. They may have been done by Bill Deal originally. I bought one or two at the time as they were so wierd and cool.

I was mistaken. It was Dave Deal's models I was thinking about.

Re: VW Bugs

Buses had to be one of the slowest vehicles on the road. I did motor work on my '66 which I bought with a dual-port '72 Superbeetle engine to start off. It held it's own and didn't slow people behind me down going up hills. I probably had it bumped up to 85-90 HP () and that was enough for people to notice and comment a lot.

I need to come up with some pictures. I painted the Bus 68-72 Diamond Reo Meadow Green. My girlfriend got run off the road by some ignorant rednecks. I came up with a '63 (small back window) Panel with 5 crank-out windows to put the engine, rebuilt transaxle, and camper interior in.

I had the '56 Bug, bought another just for the front hood. I gave it to a friend and helped him get it on the road. He diodn't care about going faster and I rebuilt the original 36hp. I had someone give me a '49! The tail end was rotted off and it pretty rough. I wanted to build a Baja bug but decided it should be restored to original being the first year they were imported. My dad knew an antique car guy (Model Ts, etc) and I gave it to him. Then there was the odd European '58 another friend of my dad's sold me for $150. I could do a whole thread on that one and really should go onto a VW site to talk about it. I always wondered if mine was some sort of unicorn. I imagine the VW nuts today may call BS on it's unique features, especially with no pictures, but it was very real and truly odd. I fixed that up and sold to a girlfriend to take off to college.

How about some very fast Buses? Too cool!!
Skip to the 2.50 mark for my favorite
Check out this show video for what's going on today in the old Volks world

Wish I had half the talent that this builder has.
He calls it the Surf Seeker.
The engine has a blower on it , all custom made.

Re: VW Bugs

Me too! Not your fathers Volkswagen . I liked seeing the old Bus smoke that Mustang! You hear the Mustang but you see the Bus gettin' on down the line!
