That area of Van Alstyne and Melissa are horrible. I honestly wouldn't doubt you got targeted for being out of state.

I've never deferred a ticket before, but the one time I was offered it (for a tint ticket, non-moving violation so it didn't matter anyhow) it didn't cost anymore than the normal fine. You see the deferred option more in and around the larger cities. My town doesn't offer it. Fight it. Pay it. Or take Defensive Driving.

Everybody had those on there tail lights in the 90s. Just remember the cops never think its cool as u do.
