Wow, that is both interesting and unique.

Apparently collecting and using straight razors has become a "hobby" for me. Today I got my best shave yet with a vintage razor, I paid all of $15.00 for it, including shipping, and it was made in Germany sometime pre WW2. It has some funny stampings, including a foot kicking a ball (rugby? soccer?) and has "TRY ME" engraved on the blade.

It's very pitted but the rust has all been removed and the honer (sharpener) even buffed the handles. I think it shaves better than my modern straight razor.

At the moment I have 13 straight razors, once my remaining Soviet Union era razors show up. Of the 13 are 4 elephant ivory-handled razors, three from a 7-day set. (7-day sets were an extreme luxury item and still are, you'll looking at between $1,500 to $3,000 for a modern 7 day set). *I have "Sunday," "Monday," and "Tuesday," all that were left of that set and the engraving is masterful.

One of the elephant ivory's is probably 1870's and the others are 1900's to 1920's (my guess). Elephant ivory is banned for use in making anything now, a real pity as such bans have no effect on poaching.

I also build and run RC boats. The most satisfaction comes from the designing and problem solving during the build process, but the maneuvering and avoiding obstacles in the pond is also a fun pastime.

Crappie are the best freshwater fish to eat, in my opinion. I've been known to slay a few now and then.

Yeah, that was one of them big boys. I turned it loose after my dad took the picture. I rarely keep those big ones. I would rather keep smaller ones for eating. GTT

Re: What is Your Other Hobby?

Crappie are one of the best tasting fish out there. Give me a ring about the time they hit the hot grease will ya?

I went hybrid bass fishing up on Greer's Ferry Lake last friday. Fished in the rain but I had a good day.

Re: What is Your Other Hobby?

Well, if I win these latest auctions, I'll be up to 16 straight razors, all of which I will shave with and two vintage "safety razors," both of which I will shave with.

I think that's the fastest I've ever grown a collection of anything.
